Class Features[edit]

All of the following are class features of the arcane librarian.

Weapon and Armor Proficiency: Arcane librarians are proficient with the club, dagger, heavy crossbow, light crossbow, and quarterstaff, but not with any type of armor or shield.

Scroll Caster: A arcane librarian's specialty is collecting and casting spells from scrolls. When casting a spell from a scroll a arcane librarian can treat the spell as having a caster level equal to his class level and a save DC equal to 10 + spell level + 1/2 the arcane librarians int score. However casting this way is difficult and requires taking an additional full round action before casting to get these benefits.

In addition a arcane librarian has a number of favored spells equal to his int modifier. These spells must be drawn off the sorcerers/wizards spell list. The arcane librarian, despite not being able to cast these spells can scribe them as if he could cast them with a caster level equal to his class levels (if this is too low a caster level to cast spells of a level spells of that level can not be favored). To add a spell to his favored list, he must first identify a scroll of the spell he wished to add and spend three uninterrupted hours studying it closely. Favored spells remain favored indefinitely or until a Arcane Librarian gains a level, at which point he may remove two spells from his favored list.

Scholar's Touch: You can cast Scholar's Touch at will.

Copy Scrolls: The most iconic ability of the arcane librarian is his ability to copy scrolls for later use. If a arcane librarian of level 3 or higher has correctly identified a scroll of 1st level or lower, he may scribe it as if he knows the spell and had sufficient caster level to do so. Unlike normal crafting this requires no XP to be expended. However these scrolls contain but a fragment of their parent scrolls power. Casting a spell from a copied scroll requires double as much time as normal (minimum 1 minute). Copied scrolls can not be copied again although they can be used to favor the original spell by another Arcane Librarian.

At 5th level and every two levels thereafter the maximum level of a scroll that can be effected by this ability increases by one.

Metamagic Scrolls: Whenever casting a spell from a scroll an arcane librarian can apply any metamagic feat they have to the spell. This does not increase the spell's level, however for each level the spell would have otherwise gained there is a cumulative 25% chance that when the it is cast it dissipates to no effect consuming the scroll in the process.

Research Spell: Arcane librarians are the masters of academic and arcane research. Given two weeks of uninterrupted work sufficient for crafting, a sufficient workspace with special inks and other scribing materials worth at least 200gp, an Arcane Librarian of at least 5th level can produce a scroll of any 1st level spell on the the Sorcerer/Wizard spell list.

Every four levels after five the maximum level of the scrolls produced by this spell increase be one.

Efficient Scribe: At 6th level any arcane librarian can scribe scrolls and only consume 75% of the typical gold and XP. At 10th level this improves to 50%, at 14th 25%, and at 18th level 10%.

Careful Caster: At 8th level any arcane librarian who casts a spell from a scroll has a 25% of not expending it and being able to recast it again in the future. At level 12 and every 4 levels there after this chance increases by an addition 25% until it becomes 100% at level 20.
