Warden[edit]

The orc roared and swung for the frustrating halfling, and with glee, he felt his axe land home, a crushing blow to the tiny weakling's chest. But as an image leapt into his mind - A stern glare from the angry face of the green-eyed elf not 40 feet behind him - A wave of nausea and pain washed over him, a throbbing in his head and a pain in his ribs. Through the blur of agony, he saw the halfling's body bled only slightly, and he looked down to see his own torso cut asunder as if by his own axe. He had little time to ponder his situation, before an elven blade blossomed from his throat.

The genasi pointed her finger and swept it from left to right, causing a line of blue runes to spring into being on the ground in front of her. Her sweat, like seawater, dripped from her brow, crystallizing as it touched a rune, eliciting a bitter smile from shark-like teeth. The demonic horde barreling through the trees towards her, and ultimately the gnomish village under her protection, would not pass this spot.

A hiss echoed through the overgrown crypt, the sound a horrific reflection of the sounds of the jungle night outside, followed by the scratching of bone on rock. The armored human froze at the sound, putting his hand on the shoulder of the dainty elven witch in his care, and greenish light washed across them both, fading to give the shadows cast on them by torchlight a mossy appearance. Shield raised, he stepped in front of her, seeming almost to take root - And like a great mountain, he stood stalwart before the broken blades and rusted arrows of the restless bones that flooded forth from the dark.

Walking the border between civilization and the untamed wild, these Wardens are the bulwarks of nature's strength that hold back the abominable.

Masters of the Wild[edit]

Wardens are druidic warriors, combining mastery of blade and shield with command over primal magic; Their instinct and willpower, to endure and overcome, gives them a connection to the ancient spirit of the world, the drive to survive, the determination to protect that which you hold dear. Plants, animals, and even the elements themselves seem to leap to aide a Warden against their plight; And this is because of the Warden's dedication to protecting nature in kind.

Guardians of Man and Beast[edit]

Where a Paladin ventures into the world to find and strike down evil, a Warden goes where their shield is needed. Whether defending civilization or nature against unnatural threats, protecting man from the wild, or protection the wild from men, their vow is one of sacrifice, a willingness to hold the final line and be the last one standing, no matter the cost. A Warden becomes the protector of their party, much like a parent, and tries to both protect their party from the world, and protect the world from their party. Wardens keep the peace, Wardens hold the line.

Creating a Warden[edit]

Consider what drives your Warden to make such sacrifices - Did they fail to protect someone dear to them before, and now, they give it their all every day, as if to repent for their weakness? Or were they oppressed, a slave, until nature revolted against that unfairness on their behalf, indebting them to protect the wild? Or perhaps, were they raised as a warrior among druids, trained to protect the circle, and sent
