1. See Damage Increases by Size to calculate the damage for a weapon larger than Medium or smaller than Small.
2. Weight figures are for Medium weapons. A Small weapon weighs half as much, and a Large weapon weighs twice as much.
3. When two types are given, the weapon is both types if the entry specifies "and", either type (player's choice at time of attack) if the entry specifies "or", or each end of the double weapon is a different type if the entry specifies "/".
4. The hp value given is for Medium armor, weapons, and shields. Divide by 2 for each size category of the item smaller than Medium, or multiply it by 2 for each size category larger than Medium.

Shuriken are small throwing stars or daggers designed to harass enemies from afar. They are usually used as poison delivery systems or for sneak attacks rather than for inherent damage ability. Shuriken can be used as a martial weapon with the typical shuriken statistics. However, those with the appropriate Exotic Weapon Proficiency gain additional benefits. The damage increases to 1d6 (for medium) and the range increases to 40 feet, and you apply your Dexterity to damage rolls with the weapon, as well as Strength (this does not stack with other abilities which add Dex to damage). A monk which uses a shuriken may use his unarmed strike damage instead.

A shuriken is a special monk weapon. This designation gives a monk wielding shuriken special options. A shuriken can’t be used as a melee weapon normally, but those with Exotic Weapon Proficiency may use them in melee at -2 to attack rolls. They break in melee as if you had thrown them.

Those with Exotic Weapon Proficiency may also employ tricks with them. As a standard action, they may make an attack which inflicts 1 point of damage, regardless of normal damage, and inflicts a great deal of pain. The target takes a -2 penalty to attack rolls, ability checks, and skill checks. This penalty lasts for 24 hours, or until the creature is successfully treated with a DC 15 Heal check, or until it receives at least 1 point of magical curing.

In addition those with proficiency may take an attack action, consuming 5 shurikens to duplicate the effect of caltrops in a 5 foot square area.

Although they are thrown weapons, shuriken are treated as ammunition for the purposes of drawing them, crafting masterwork or otherwise special versions of them and what happens to them after they are thrown.

This weapon acts as (and is intended as a replacement as) a normal shuriken. The price is for 5 shuriken.
