Sky Mariner

Some worlds don’t have much in the way of oceans, they can be deserted planets or simply a collection of floating islands. The mariner on those worlds operate sky ships, which sails through the cloud instead of water. A sky mariner operates a airship much like they do with a sailing ship, but puts their survival talents to the test as a single slip could mean death.

Class: Mariner

Level: 1st-20th

Replaces: Deeds, Seamanship

Benefit: A sky mariner gain the following class features:

Sky Sailor (Ex): A sky mariner operates an airship instead of a sailing ship. Thus all instances of sailing ship in any deeds or call feature refers to an airship instead.

Aerial Deeds (Ex): A siege gunner swaps a few of her deeds of her choosing for the following.

Height Awareness (Ex): A mariner that has at least 1 grit point can judge the height of a fall, air density and air temperature whenever she looks down, as long as she is able to see the ground or the cloud cover below her.

This deed replaces the judge water deed.

High Altitude Adaptation (Ex): A mariner that has at least 1 grit point automatically adapts to whatever altitude she is, as long as there is breathable air.

This deed replaces the swift swim deed.

Safe Fall (Ex): A mariner that has at least 1 grit point reduces any fall damage she takes by 2d6 and always lands on her feet after falling. As an immediate action, a sky mariner can spend 1 grit to deploy a parachute, which behaves as a personal only version of feather fall.

This deed replaces the hold breath deed.

Griffon Slayer (Ex): A mariner of 7th level can spend 1 grit point as a swift action to add the bane enhancement to one weapon she wields for 1 minute. The enhancement only applies to Animals and Magical Beasts with a fly speed who are at least 1 size larger than the mariner.

This deed replaces the shark slayer deed.

Makeshift Glider (Ex): A mariner of 11th level that has at least 1 grit point can deploy an emergency improvised glider as an immediate action. This grants her a fly speed of 60 feet, but she cannot use it to gain altitude. Once the mariner lands the glider falls into pieces.

This deed replaces the mermaid's blessing deed.

Roc Slayer (Ex): At 15th level, the sky mariner may spend 1 grit to make a single attack as a full-round action against a flying opponent. If the attack hits, the creature must make a Fortitude save (DC 10 + ½ class level + the sky mariner’s Wisdom modifier) or immediately fall and be unable to fly for 1 minute. Even on a successful save, the creature must land next turn and will be unable to fly for 1 round. The fall damage inflicted by falling from this deed cannot be reduced by a skill check, spell or other effect and deals increased damage. For each size category larger than medium the creature is, the fall damage dice increased by 1 size (1d6 to 1d8, 1d8 to 1d10, 1d10 to 1d12, maximum of d12s).

This deed replaces the kraken slayer deed.

Airmanship (Ex): A mariner of 2nd level is a professional sailor, she gains half her class level as a bonus on Balance, Climb, Profession (Sailor), Spot and Use Rope checks.
