Lightning TurretEdit

A lightning turret is a huge gun that is simple to control and blasts massive lightning bolts. The gun is mounted on a 10 ft. x 10 ft. platform and is attached to a big comfy swiveling chair so that the operator can enjoy luxury while turning intruders into charred corpses. The turret has a powerful recoil and needs to be firmly anchored to a sturdy structure in order to fire properly, but is easy enough for even a child to use: just point and shoot.

Lightning turrets come in three models.

The first model is rather inexpensive to build, but it requires wands of lightning bolt to function. Each shot from the turret drains 1 charge from the wand and fires a lightning bolt as if created by the wand, but automatically empowers it. Also note that Use Magic Device checks are not required to use a lightning turret.

The second model is pricier, but doesn't require any external power source. It has three configurable modes of firing:

  1. Long range: An widened lightning bolt (240 ft. long, 10d6 damage, 10th caster level)
  2. Burst Fire: Two lightning bolts that may be targeted over different areas (5d6 damage, 5th caster level)
  3. Hyper Beam: A maximized lightning bolt that requires 1 round to recharge afterwards (60 damage, 10th caster level)

The third model doesn't have a seat and has a special gemstone contained within its inner core (which can be removed if desired). Any arcane mark on the gemstone is used for targeting. The turret has arcane sight of 120 ft. and will fire a CL 10 lightning bolt at any targets with a mark that it sees that matches one on its gemstone core. It will try to hit as many marked creatures as possible with its lightning line.

Each turret has 250 hp and a hardness of 10. They weigh 1000 lbs (although are usually built on-site).

Moderate evocation; CL 10th; Craft Wondrous Item, lightning bolt; Price 9,000 gp, 50,000 gp, or 75,000 gp for the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd models, respectively.
