Of Crowns and Conquest (3.5e Campaign Setting)/Geography and Environment
Geography
Krypteia is a land of full of wonder. Ancient ruins from past ages when the Gods still walked amongst the mortals sit aside beautiful vistas, yet nothing compares to the majesty of the Wellsprings. All Wellsprings are round surface connections with subterranean water bodies. The water is extremely clear, with very little suspended particulate matter. The surface of the water glows at night around the edges with small specks of soft blue light and nearby flora blooms year round in vibrant hues, many of them also giving of light at night.
The Wellsprings
The Mulo Wellspring
Deep in the heart of Canim territory, at the center of the Aldwood Rainforest lies the Mulo Wellspring. While it is not the only wellspring in existence it is the most prominent. Latent magical energies can be physically felt by all who approach. As a result, numerous miracles have been attributed to the wellspring throughout the centuries. Additionally, spellcasters feel more in tune with their magic abilities; and those spellcasters lucky enough to have trained at the Mulo College are held in high esteem by others. For centuries, Lunar festivals have been held from dusk to dawn with every full moon.
Wellspring Magic
A great many magical treatises have been written about the wellsprings, none of which are able to conclusively define its properties. This is probably due to the fame and folklore about wellsprings that permeates the Septheon cultures as well as to the shear volume of information; for every idea there are easily one or two opposing thoughts.
The few things that are agreed upon are that the wellspring is indeed magical, for anyone who approaches it feels different than normal. Not only that, but at every Lunar Festival the Curates of the Seven take their pick out of the most exquisitely crafted goods whether it be jewelry, arms, armor, or clothing. The few items they choose are taken to the center of the wellspring for a ritual that lasts from dusk until dawn. These items are said to be touched by the Seven, and upon completion of the ceremony the items are imbued with magical properties.
