A hellfire rocket-lance is a long and hollow metal shaft fitted with a bugle-like opening on one end (used to prop it in the ground when set as a pike as well as for channeling backdraft from the rocket) and a sharpened spearhead on the other, which deals the amount of damage indicated above. When used in melee, it deals double damage when used from the back of a charging mount or when set against a charge and may burst with flame to cause half of its damage to be hellfire damage (see below) at the rider's whim. Being mounted also allows the wielder of a hellfire rocket-lance to use the weapon in one hand.

The spearhead, which is actually a cleverly multi-purposed rocket shell, can also be fired as a standard action ranged attack, either against an individual target or against a space as large as the size of a creature for whom the rocket-lance is sized (normally 5x5 for a Medium-sized creature). The shot deals 1d6 points of fire damage per point of Base Attack Bonus the wielder possesses; if aimed at a square, the inhabitant(s) of that square are allowed a Reflex save (DC 10 + ½ the rocket-lance wielder’s BAB) to take half damage. As with all hellfire weapons, the fire damage dealt by this weapon ignores one point of fire resistance per character level (or CR) of the user, and treats fire immunity as resistance equal to 1/2 of the damage it would deal. After being fired in this fashion, a hellfire rocket-lance automatically creates a new spearhead.
