A long wooden staff split into three sections by metal rings, which hold the weapon in one piece and hide the chains that hook each wooden shaft together. A three section staff may be wielded as a [[SRD:Quarterstaff|quarterstaff]] by anyone with simple weapon proficiency. 

If the wielder is proficient with the three section staff as an exotic weapon, however, they may separate the metal rings, leaving only the chains connecting the parts of the weapon. Detaching or attaching the rings in this manner is normally a move action, but a character with a Base Attack Bonus of +4 or higher may do so as a swift action.

Adjusting the weapon in this fashion forgoes the three section staff’s ability to be used as a double weapon, but instead makes it a reach weapon that allows the wielder to strike at anyone in their melee reach. In this form, and three section staff also grants it’s wielder a +2 bonus to disarm checks.
