Rock fish are, like the name suggests, hard as rock fish living in the mountain lakes of Rockhelm. Lacking an effective digestive tract, they ingest riversand and small pebbles to help digest their food, which has genetically inclined them to process minerals instead. They are roughly two feet long from head to tail, and incredibly rigid, making them very ineffective swimmers. They can however shoot themselves forward like a projectile, allowing them to catch much quicker fish for eating.

Rockfish are, like the name suggests, hard-as-rock fish living in the mountain lakes of Rockhelm. Lacking an effective digestive tract, they ingest riversand and small pebbles to help digest their food, which has genetically inclined them to process minerals instead. They are roughly two feet long from head to tail, and incredibly rigid, making them very ineffective swimmers. They can, however, shoot themselves forward like a projectile, allowing them to catch much quicker fish for eating.

Combat[edit]

Because it is far more rigid than an ordinary fish, when a rockfish ends up out of water, it can't even try to desperately flop about to escape capture. All it can do is lay there, not unlike a helpless rock.

A rockfish is highly inedible.

Torpedo Charge (Ex): Even in water, a rockfish can hardly turn, but once it is faced in the right direction, it may excite its fins and channel water through various apertures lining its rear to create a powerful thrust. As a full-round action, a rockfish may move up to quadruple speed in a straight line and make one attack with its bite at a +2 circumstance bonus. If the attack succeeds, the bite is an automatic critical threat.

The rockfish may use its torpedo charge to move out of water, traveling in a straight line until it has covered four times its swim speed.

A rockfish may only use its torpedo charge a maximum of every other round.

Rockfish as Weapons[edit]

A rockfish is so rigid that the usually peaceful Goliaths of Rockhelm have taken to fish up schools of rockfish to use as blunt weapons against orcish and hobgoblin barbarians. A rockfish used as a manufactured weapon has a base damage of 1d8, a critical of 19-20/x2, and deals bludgeoning damage. A rockfish is treated as a martial one-handed weapon. Due to the rockfish's ugly, jagged scales, each successful attack with a rockfish against any living creature causes 1 point of bleedout. A rockfish remains a viable weapon after death if that death is due to asphyxiation, though once it breaks, it can't be fixed. A damaged living rockfish can be healed naturally, though, though breaking a rockfish is tantamount to killing it.

Rockfish advanced to 5 or more Hit Dice are so large that they are two-handed weapons instead. They have a base damage of 2d6.

A rockfish (alive or dead) is valued at 5 gp per HD squared (20 gp for a regular, 2 HD rockfish).
