*: Depending on the critical properties of the wielded weapon.
The tombs of ancient nobles are teeming with traps. Unlike the lesser vigils that burst out of alcoves to deal with intruders, these tombwardens stand in the open, observing the dark halls of their late masters like fierce statues, always ready to vanquish would-be tomb raiders with righteous indignation.
Tombwardens are intermediate-level vigils assigned to watch over the graves of lesser nobles and high-level officials. Their ornate bodies modeled after powerful heroes and demigods of Ancient mythology, and their fervour in battle is well-nefitting of such a fearsome visage. They stand about 7 and a half feet tall and weigh roughly 600 pounds.
Combat[edit]
Tombwardens stand on designated plinths within the tombs they are assigned to guard, and will instantly activate when interlopers get within 30 feet of them. Unlike basic protectors, tombwardens were made with affixed souls from veteran warriors trained in the sublime way.
Favored Weapon: Each tombwarden is interred with the weapon it was most proficient with in life. This is either a longsword, battleaxe, warhammer or spear. Other types of weapons can be added by DM discretion, though the above stats apply to all four named weapons. A tombwarden’s weapon is a +1 weapon made from orichalcum.
Maneuver-Like Abilities: A tombwarden standardly knows 3 maneuvers and 1 stance, selected from the Vigil Maneuvers list (to be done). It starts every encounter with 1 of its maneuvers available, determined with a d3 roll. At the end of any turn during which the tombwarden has not used any maneuvers, it rolls another d3 to see which maneuver becomes available.
Shield (Su): A vigil tombwarden projects a personal shield with 5 hit points per Hit Die (standardly 40 hit points), with a Moderate (HD/minute) recharge speed.
