A Dwarrowhelm Weard donned in full panoply. |
WeardskälEdit
The warrior moves and slays his enemies, but the ward stands still and guards. First seeing life by the fire and craftsmanship of the Dwarrowhelm dwarves, 'weardskäl', translated roughly as 'heavy coat befitting a ward', is their word for a panoply of armor designed for exactly such a fighting style.

The Dwarves of Dwarrowhelm are a reclusive and austere lot, seeking excellence in their craft but rarely sticking their heads out of their snowy mountains. The Dwarrowhelm Weards epitomize their reclusiveness, their unbreakable connection to the earth under their feet, and also the sheer ferocity with which they defend their secrets. Within the narrow passages of their underground holds, a warrior clad in weardskäl is invincible.
The weardskäl is always masterwork; price and benefits are subsumed in the above statistics.
The weardskäl grants the following benefits when worn, on top of its general protective capabilities:
- Whenever you must make a Balance check to avoid falling prone, you may make a Fortitude save instead.
- Your adjacent squares count as difficult terrain to enemies.
- You gain damage reduction/- as well as a bonus to saving throws and checks to resist staggering, stunning and being moved against your will equal to your Constution bonus, but no higher than the weardskäl's AC bonus.
- These above benefits are only in effect when you are firmly standing on solid ground and don't move. They disappear when you stand on loose ground or difficult terrain, lose contact with the ground altogether, are mounted on another creature, or move more than 5 feet in a single round, whether by your will or against it. To regain the benefits of the weardskäl, you must reroot yourself to the ground with a solid stance as a full-round action.
Craft (metalworking and stoneworking) DC 30. Market Price 6,800 gp.
