Hi everybody! It's a good article, but there are two odd points. First of all,the damaging capacity of a weapon should be considered as an objective trait: there's no need to distinghuish 2d4 damage when a messer is wielded with Martial proficiency and 1d8 when wielded without. A 2d4 damage should be regarded as the proper unique value for a cutting-oriented weapon like the messer(a.k.a. langes Messer or Groß Messer). Secondly, there is no reason why the Messer can't be used in two hand by someone without Martial Proficiency (like a paesant or a lumberjack). It is more logical that an use with both hands would be easier for people who have never received a martial preparation. That's what I propose: people without martial proficiency can use a Messer without penalties ONLY wielding it with two hands In that case,a messer could be considered a simple weapon. For the same reason the Bastard Sword can be used as a two-handed melee weapon if wielded with both hands by someone without exotic weapons proficiency (as explained in 3.5 rules under "Bastard Sword). I hope my contribution would be appreciated! Thanks a lot! :) |
