Some models of Malchus can be considered the martial version of the poor man’s simple “Langes Messer” (long knife), since it can feature a similar grip and guard shape. However, many models of this weapon presents a more elaborate crossguard with a spherical pommel, similar to a longsword’s crossguard (In that case, it usually corresponds to the typical “one-handed cleaving falchion” of the Middle Ages). The Malchus is typically used by professional men-at arms and knights, often against their lowers on the battlefield.
