Bleeding Edge (3.5e Campaign Setting)/Magic/Summon Shinyspark
Summon Shinyspark[edit]
The summon shinyspark ritual summons up an unseen yet present entity known as "Shinyspark" due to its unique verbal tick. It is believed to be (or have been) a fey at some point associated with crows given the bird-like vocalizations, the sound of flapping wings, and the nature of its summoning. In addition, the spirit can only be summoned in certain locations in the world, typically in places where crows build their nests. Upon the ritual's completion, a voice rings out from the nest used as a focus.
"Caw! Caw! Give me shinies! Give me sparklies! Caw!"
At this point, Shinyspark is available to trade items. The spirit only barters and does not offer currency (and it accepts currency, but gives nothing for it). It offers trades of random non-shiny non-sparkly items in return of equal or lesser value. Shinyspark can be communicated with, but its speech is vapid and largely focused on acquiring more shiny sparkly objects. After trading is complete, your offered items will vanish and new items will be put in their place within the nest. While the spirit can be summoned at will, repeated summons with no new trades may irritate it as would attacking its square. It cannot be damaged, but an annoyed Shinyspark will immediate leave and may send fey or other creatures your way as revenge. It cannot be summoned again until its revenge is complete.
The ritual is associated with no particular deity but rather is associated with a particularly mysterious fey, which may or may not have actually existed. Overuse of the ritual may attract negative attention from Shinyspark, which can range from pranks to more severe and fatal acts of revenge.
