History of Cala'diel[edit]

Creation Mythos[edit]

Creation of the world is credited to 2 sibling Dragons; Tiamat[1] and Bahamut[2].

Tiamat is a five-headed dragon. Each head a different color (black, blue, green, red, white), and each head has different powers. Her body is a blending of the various colors with an appropriately multicolored hide. Her body also has traits in common with a wyvern, including a long tail tipped with a poisonous stinger.

Bahamut is a massive, long and sinuous dragon with silver-white scales and blue, catlike eyes. The exact color is hard to specify and may depend on his mood, ranging from sky-blue to frosty indigo.

Legends say that these two created everything in existance. They spent lots of time together doing so, but eventually grew tired of just having themselves as company. To solve this they created a planet, calling it Cala'diel, that they would inhabit with other dragons. Cala'diel was created with one large land mass, named Ticia.

Using their powers, Tiamat and Bahamut created 10 different dragons, 5 each. Tiamat made one dragon with the likeness for each of her 5 heads. These Dragons were Vagodor(the Black dragon), Balro (the Blue dragon), Ranthur (the Green dragon), Fangdur (the Red dragon) and Ndra (the White dragon). Bahamut created Cazgo (the Copper dragon), Landero (the Brass dragon), Aurorum (the Bronze dragon), Elathandri (the Gold dragon), and Malkura (the Silver dragon).

Tiamat and Bahamut did not want the dragons to have to live on a planet alone, so they too were gifted with the power of creation. The dragons then went on to create a world they could call home. This is how Cala'diel became populated with all the races and creatures it has today. However even with their new found company, Tiamat and Bahamut's relationship turned to hatred. The root of this hatred can not be pin pointed, but it may also be the cause for the dragons they created to turn on each other. No longer would Ticia be a peaceful place, the once large continent would soon be stricken by war.

It is impossible to tell who turned on who first, but the first attack damaged Ticia, causing the continent to break. Tiamat and Bahamut would never return to Cala'diel, however the other dragons continued to battle. Each dragon would find a rival to battle and they would then be locked in a fight to the death. Ndra fought Malkura, Fangdur fought Elathandri, Ranthur fought Aurorum, Balro fought Landero, and Vagodor fought with Cazgo. These fights in the end would prove fatal for all of them. As each dragon fought in the sky over the now breaking continent of Ticia, Cala'diel was being reformed. The force and power of these dragons gods doing battle could be felt by every living thing on the planet. The two massive dragon gods locked up with each other in melee combat, formed a shape like giant meteor. As the battle came to a close, the force of these dragons falling back to the ground formed giant craters. The large craters left in Ticia would eventually flood, creating oceans, seas, bays and gulfs. The land mass of Ticia was no more.

With the battle now ended Cala'diel would be forever changed, giving the world its 5 continents it has now. Athlon, Eskzor, Reedan, Ibrna, and Evokra. The current focus of the game world is the continent of Athlon.

Time Keeping on Cala'diel[edit]

The planet of Cala'diel revolves around a single star and takes 280 days to complete one revolution. Cala'diel rotates on its axis exactly like Earth does and has 24 hour long days. Cala'diel has two moons, Tiamat and Bahamut. They are both nearly the same size, about 1/13th the size of Cala'diel. Tiamat is red, looking much like Mars does; and Bahamut is greyish, having a appearence much like Earth's moon. They act like Earths moon and go through phases. Both share the night sky together, and both take 56 days to complete a full phase cycle.

Tracking the years on Cala'diel is done using the terms TT and GD. TT stands for "Ticia Time" and GD stands for "Great Divide". Years count back from 1 when using TT and forward when using GD.

The method used on Cala'diel to track the time in a year is as follows:

  • 280 days a year
  • 10 months a year
  • 28 days a month
  • 24 hours in a day

Tracking months is done by using the phases of the two moons. When Tiamat is considered full, Bahamut would be considered new. This means when Tiamat can be fully viewed, Bahamut would not be viewable. It then takes 28 days for Tiamat to be considered new, and Bahamut to be full. Every 28 days when a moon becomes full, a new month begins. If the month began with Tiamat in full view, it would then be a month named after a dragon Tiamat created. If the month began with Bahamut in full view, it is a month sharing the name of a dragon Bahamut created.

The order of the months are as follows:

  • Ndra
  • Cazgo
  • Fangdur
  • Landero
  • Ranthur
  • Elath
  • Balro
  • Aurorum
  • Vagodor
  • Malkura

So the 14th day of the 6th month in the current year would be written - 14 Elath 252 GD.

Seasons:

  • Malkura, Ndra and Cazgo are considered Winter months
  • Fangdur and Landero are considered Spring months
  • Ranthur, Elath and Balro are considered Summer months
  • Aurorum and Vagodor are considered Fall months

Dates:

  • 1 Fangdur - Vernal Equinox. (First day of spring)
  • 20 Landero - Summer Solstice. (First day of summer)
  • 6 Aurorum - Autumnal Equinox. (First day of fall)
  • 17 Malkura - Winter Solstice. (First day of winter)

Historic events on the Continent of Athlon[edit]

The First Lizardfolk War[edit]

After the Great Divide the Lizardfolk blamed all the other races for their dragon gods leaving Cala'diel, and for the Great Divide itself. Lizardfolk viewed themselves as the true rulers of Cala'diel now that the dragons had been destroyed. The Lizardfolk, under the rule of a Blackscale named Crae, started to gather the tribes from all across Athlon. Crae first convinced all the Lizardfolk that Cala'diel belonged to all dragonkin, and that they would need to go to war to reclaim it.

  • 3 GD

It only took 3 years for Crae to build a army she felt was large enough to destroy everyone on Athlon. Crae was able to gain allies with Trogs and Kobolds, aswell as all Lizardfolk tribes. They all gathered in the swampland home of her Blackscale tribe. Crae called this their home because it was near the largest mountain on Athlon, Mount Katul. Crae claimed that Mount Katul was the den of Vagodor, the Black Dragon spawned by Tiamat. Blackscales differ from most Lizardfolk, this is because they have black scales instead of light green or brown. Blackscales are also much larger and stronger, and this size difference is what made Crae so easly gain allies from Kobolds and Trogs. Soon after gathering, they then marched west to reclaim the Crescent Coast. After claiming the western shores they burned every city and town along their way south. They continued south until reaching the city of Dardanelles. This city was home to mostly Humans, and still had not yet fully recovered from the destruction of the Great Divide years earlier. This city was important for Crae to take because Humans represent the largest race on Cala'diel. Humans were also mining the mountain area around the Lizardfolk homeland and Crae knew taking the mountains back would hinder weapon production for the Humans. Here the Humans made a strong stand against the Lizardfolk, destroying Dardanelles even more so in the process.

  • 3 - 6 GD

With word of the Humans holding back Crae's armies, other races of Athlon sailed to Dardanelles with aid. The largest support coming from the Elves. Without the Elves Dardanelles might have fallen to Crae. After 3 years of war the Lizardfolk were stopped, and retreated back to Mount Katul. Crae was not killed in the war and returned to her swamplands. After the loss, Trogs and Kobolds remained allies with Lizardfolk, but their numbers were so thinned that they had no were else to go.

Crae was not happy with how things ended up, and she took it out on her own kind. Crae said the Lizardfolk had lost their true dragon blood and left with her clan of Blackscales. Crae went on to be the first tribe leader of the Bogstalkers. The Bogstalker clan would go on to be known as ruthless. Crae herself began to call herself a spawn of Tiamat, and promised that the dragon bloodline would remain in her Bogstalker tribes. Crae forever changed the way Lizardfolk would be viewed, and they were never welcomed back into civilized society.

The Copper Isle War[edit]

  • 8 GD

With Dardanelles nearly destroyed, the people would need to rebuild. However, they lacked the resources to do so. Although the Lizardfolk were not able to claim Dardanelles, they were able reclaim their mountains. Since the old mines were taken by the Bogstalkers, the humans would need to find a new place to mine. So the humans instead looked to the sea, where they found a chain of Islands rich with Copper and other precious metals.

They set up camps and small towns on these islands. They also started many port cities back on main land. The largest of these still being Dardanelles, as bad a shape as it was in. The Copper Isles however were not unclaimed, as dwarves had been mining these Islands since the Great Divide. The dwarves called it their homeland on Athlon and felt that other people had no right to be there, so they had to make that clear.

  • 14 - 23 GD

Over the next nine years, the dwarves made things very hard for the people of Dardanelles. They began capturing trade ships heading back to Dardanelles, taking all the goods as well as the ships to remind humans that The Copper Isles did not belong to them. Dardanelles would yet again be the focus of war on Athlon. Dwarf ships would be seen almost daily in the waters near the city. This made any type of trade very hard on the humans, so even though they were unmatched, they were forced to fight the dwarves. A war with the dwarves was deemed better than another war with Crae and her Bogstalkers, so mining the old mountains was not a option. Shipments and trade ships could never follow any sort of set schedule; if they did, the dwarves would soon figure it out and be waiting to capture them.

The war in The Copper Isles never had any large battles, it was just a stand off between two races that took place over a long period of time. The dwarves managed to shut down any trade Dardanelles had with the rest of Cala'diel. They had gotten Dardanelles to a point were mining the Copper Isles was not for profit, only for need. Angrol Kazad, the largest dwarf city, however did not suffer the same way Dardanelles did, and still traded with other cities. With no ores and metals coming from anywhere else, Angrol Kazad profited from this war. Looking to maximize profits, the rivers of Athlon boomed with trade. This boom caused many smaller, more central cities to grow; most effected was the town of Jeuno. Jeuno was a port town that served as a center point for the continent of Athlon. On the shores of Lake Ashby, this port town quickly became the hub for all cities to dock in and trade. The four largest rivers on Athlon all connect to Lake Ashby, and then these rivers would flow from coast to coast. This served Jeuno very well as all ships would stop at the ports, use the inns, eat at the taverns, and trade at the shops. This is how Angrol Kazad took control of the ore trade.

Humans had been fighting wars for too long, and could not match the might of the dwarves. Dwarves had been taking their ships and not destroying them. This meant every ship the humans built and lost would eventually be used against them. This made fighting a war double costly for the humans but lowered the cost for the dwarves. Dwarves would also not hesitate to burn their ships if it looked like they would lose it back to the humans, since it was not theirs anyway. Regaining supplies was almost a impossible task for Dardanelles, this meant they would have to decide if it was better to destroy their shipments or lose them to the dwarves each time they were attacked.

  • 23 - 41 GD

With the loss of shipments becoming a bigger problem, humans needed to think of something to cut war costs. They used anything they could find that could be made for free. The area around Dardanelles was a large graveyard of Trogs, Lizardfolk, and Kobolds. They took Blackscale bones, fused them with iron, and created what they called Blacksteel. This new compound was then used to forge weaponry. Weapons made from this material easily out shined other weaponry used by dwarves. Using the bones of Blackscales that were already inside and around Dardanelles made war costs drop drastically. Dardanelles quickly made as much as they could and sent it off to Jeuno. The new Blacksteel lowered the demand for dwarven ores, and quickly turned the almost broken Dardanelles economy around. The humans finally built their new capital city and named it Blacksteel. This wonder product not only strengthened the human weaponry, but also the human race as a whole.

Soon, however, Blacksteel began to run out of bones to use as material for their weaponry, and returned to The Copper Isles. Armed with their new blacksteel weapons, they engaged the dwarves again, and triumphed. This caused the dwarves to lose the monopoly they once had on the islands. The fights continued, but they were not as favorable for the dwarves as they used to be. Faced with what would appear to be a never ending war, and the knowledge that their supply of Blackscale bones would eventually run out, the King of Blacksteel met with the King of Angrol Kazad. They came to terms that Blacksteel would stay to the northern most islands and only mine there. The dwarves did not know how the humans were making blacksteel and saw the deal as a win for them, since the northern islands were not as rich. They agreed to terms and the war that lasted nearly 27 years came to a end.

Jeuno vs Free Trade[edit]

  • 67 - 75 GD

Lake Ashby had become the center point of most trade routes on Athlon. Jeuno was the largest of the cities that touched its shores; however, it was not the only city. Other smaller towns had been built during this trade boom. Trade had not slowed over the last 30 years; in fact, trade was growing. With the Lizardfolk all but vanished and the war between Blacksteel and Angrol Kazad over, this peace time encouraged large economic growth. All cities were getting larger, they were expanding across Athlon, and the rivers were getting more usage then ever.

The rivers gave anyone who wished to travel Athlon a simple and fast way of doing so. As long as people kept traveling the rivers, Lake Ashby would remain the center of everything. A ship could travel from one side of Athlon to the other in under 10 days, in most cases. That was nothing to the average merchant; they could do that without the need to stop for very long. As years passed, trade ships would begin to just sail past Jeuno, or stop in the smaller towns on Lake Ashby with cheaper inns and less ships. This kicked off a small decline in the appeal of Jeuno to traders. They had no need to stop in Jeuno if it was not their destination.

To solve this problem, Jeuno officials needed to think of ways to make stopping there necessary. They decided that if they built a large harbor--large enough so each city could set up its own ports, they could drop off their goods at their port. Jeuno in turn would be in charge of moving the goods from port to port, filling delivery orders, making ships only need to dock once in Jeuno and have access to trading with all other cities. This would put the risk of supply loss and organization in the hands of Jeuno. This also shortened trade times for other cities. Instead of having to sail for 9 days from Angrol Kazad to the city of Volmoria, you could sail 3 days to Jeuno, unload your goods, pick up the goods Jeuno had delivered from Volmoria's ports, and sail 3 days back. Total trade time of 6 days, as opposed to 18 days without the use of Jeuno. This was a clever idea and was readily adopted by all of the larger cities.

Jeuno began to reconstruct its city port, turning it into a huge walled harbor. This harbor was one large building, 4 stories high, and went out into Lake Ashby about 1 mile. The side walls were lined with docks, enough docks for hundreds of ships. This harbor was so large it looked like a castle built right onto the lake. It was with this giant fortress looking into the harbor that Jeuno convinced all of Athlon that trading inside the walls of Jeuno was easier and faster for all those involved.

This once again made Jeuno the trade capital of Athlon. All ships would dock at its massive harbor and entrust their goods to the officials of Jeuno. Then the officials would regulate trade and fulfill orders so the ships could unload and reload. Each dock section could be seen from the outside and would hang the flags of the cities they were affiliated. This made trade shorter, causing cities to only have to sail to Jeuno to get anything they needed, from any city, for less cost and risk of sailing there themselves.

Once Jeuno made this change, most of the other towns around Lake Ashby became fishing or farming towns. The influx in visitors they once had completely stopped, and everyone once again needed Jeuno.

The Bogstalkers Return[edit]

  • 64 GD

Some time around 64 GD, Crae either died or was no longer leading the Bogstalker tribe. History shows that Hesk, a daughter of Crae took over around this time. Planning to continue what Crae had started, the strongest daughter of the current leader would be chosen next to lead the tribe. This was the lizardfolks' way of strengthening the dragon bloodline believed to be present in all Blackscale. Since the last war, the Bogstalkers have continued to live near Mount Katul; however, lizardfolk tribes have spread out all along the swamps in the area. It would take time before their numbers would reach what they used to be.

  • 92 GD

Lizardfolk usually live between 70 - 90 years, so the appearance of a tomb built for Crae at this time fits the life span. It is still not known when or how she died; it is reasonable to assume that Crae died near the time Hesk became leader. This temple built in the swamps around Mount Katul would be the first ever constructed by Lizardfolk; and with the temple now being destroyed, it is difficult to put the whole story of Crae's life and death together.

Hesk was not a ruthless leader like Crae; she spent most of her time as leader civilizing the Lizardfolk. It was in her rule that Lizardfolk settlements started to appear. Bogstalkers mostly stayed to one area, no longer moving around constantly, attacking everything entering their territory. Lizardfolk, as a whole, became more crafty and intelligent during this time; even going as far as to learn the common language. Their weaponry became more advanced--gone were the days of large sticks and biting. They started using shields, bows, and poisons. Many travelers reported the appearance of Poisondusk for the first time during the rule of Hesk. The Crae temple being built is also proof the Lizardfolk became more civilized.

  • 117 GD

In 117 GD, reports of Lizardfolk attacks became more common in the areas north of Volmoria. Lizardfolk had always attacked travelers who came into their swamps; however, these reports came from attacks outside the swamp. The attacks described raiding parties and evidence of organization. By the time Volmoria decided to investigate, it was too late; small towns even closer to Khuul had been attacked. Hesk was no longer leader of the Bogstalkers. Riza, a daughter of Hesk, had taken over.

Riza clearly did not share the same views as her mother, and within 1 year of her becoming leader had started attacking any other race she came across. The Lizardfolk race as a whole had grown a lot under the rule of Hesk, and the attacks were no longer so barbaric as they were in the time of Crae. Lizardfolk could speak common now, they had weapons on par with their enemies, and in most cases were physically superior to other races. Riza no longer needed all the tribes to start a war, she could travel in small raid parties and do about the same damage. Riza would go on raiding towns, slowing expanding her empire for the next 3 years.

  • 120 GD

By this time Riza was becoming very good at destroying towns and escaping back to the swamps. She had pushed her boundaries so far that soon she would on the doorstep of Khuul. Khuul is a large port city on the coast of Rabbit Bay, mostly used by the city of Volmoria to trade with the continent of Ibrna. Volmoria began to have growing concern that Riza would eventually try to take Khuul. They had tried to stop the Lizardfolk advance 4 times, but always failed. Volmoria simply did not have a large enough army to actively patrol the movements of Riza. So instead of trying to stop Riza from taking small towns, they sent their army to the city of Khuul.

It was true that Lizardfolk now possessed weapons equal to that of their enemies, no longer attacking so blindly and barbaric, but they were still not as smart. Volmoria had predicted Riza would try to take Khuul and as planned Volmoria troops were waiting for her. Like a moth attracted to flame, history repeated itself, and just like Crae before her in Dardanelles, Riza blindly attacked the city of Khuul over and over. Riza was killed in the city of Khuul on Aurorum 12, 125 GD. This day is still celebrated in Khuul every year.

This left the Bogstalkers under the leadership of Kroga, Riza's sister, who was left in charge by Riza while she was away. Riza did have daughters; however, they were too young to lead, so the tradition of having a daughter of the current leader was put aside until a later time.

  • 133 GD

Kroga spent her time as leader much like her mother Hesk did. She had two more temples built, one for Hesk and one for Riza. She again focused on advancing the Lizardfolk race as a whole. No one will ever know for sure what motivated Kroga, but most argue revenge was her driving force. Like Crae before her, she took the time to gather all the tribes together at Mount Katul. She did this early in her leadership however, so it is unknown if she did this to start war, or just to unify the tribes. Mount Katul became almost like a capital city for the Lizardfolk. For the first time they started to build buildings to last for years, unlike how they normally would build them as quick shelter then move on. They showed signs of starting to build a real city here.

It was around this time that Lizardfolk built their first ships, and began sailing the rivers of Athlon. Kroga was never seen as a true leader however, she had broken tradition in the eyes of the tribes, and eventually a daughter of Riza would need to take leadership. Kroga knew this and had spent most of her time with Riza's daughters, teaching them how to lead and what happened to their mother. Kroga would have to step down once the tribes decided any daughter was ready.

  • 146 GD

Large scale attacks came quickly and fiercely all across Athlon in 156 GD. The time of Kroga had clearly come to a end. These attacks, however, were not like anything the Lizardfolk had done before. Instead of moving one direction like Crae did, or using small raid parties with tight knit leadership like Riza, the attacks happened at multiple places and at the same time. They were systematic and varied not only in force and size, but also tactics used. The lizardfolk were able to attack in the direction of Khuul, Volmoria, Blacksteel and Jeuno. Sometimes it would look like they planned on taking Blacksteel, but then attacks on towns outside Volmoria would spring up. This quickly escalated into widespread panic all over the lands in the northern half of Athlon. Towns would make false reports of attacks, just in hopes of getting support from a larger city. This sporadic attack pattern managed to confuse anyone who tried to defend themselves.

These attacks were pulled off by using two leaders. Riza had many daughters; however, it was her twin daughters, Saraza and Drazda, that took leadership from Kroga. They each took large armies of Lizardfolk, Trogs, and Kobolds in two different directions. Then, using varying attack strategies, they tried to outsmart their enemies.

The Athlon Trade League[edit]

  • 152 GD

To prepare for the impending Lizardfolk attack, Jeuno built walls around the entire city. It was only a matter of time before the Lizardfolk made their way to Jueno. With the Lizardfolk attacks being so impossible to predict, northern trade came to a halt. No one wanted to risk traveling the rivers never knowing when or where Lizardfolk may strike. This left Jeuno unable to fill orders, take orders, and needing to close some trade routes.

Drazda's first attack on the city of Jeuno lead to a easy defeat at the hands of Jeuno forces. The newly built walls proved to be well worth the investment. Drazda however was not as headstrong as her ancestors, she retreated from battle and lived to fight another day. The losses the Lizardfolk suffered that day were kept to a minimum, and moral remained high. Drazda did learn things from Lizardfolk history however; deciding a smaller raid party, like what her mother used, would be more effective against the city of Jeuno. Using this strategy combined with Kroga's teaching of sailing, Drazda attacked trade ships sailing the Maywood River and captured them. The Maywood River ran from Jeuno to Shyrduin, the Elven capital. Drazda studied Jeuno, watching the trade ships, and learned that only the Angrol Kazad and Shyrduin trade routes remained open. By taking elven trade ships they would be able to dock in Jeuno ports. 5 raid parties took 5 elven ships and docked in Jeuno, gaining access to the city and killing hundreds. This proved that even the fortress city of Jeuno could be taken.

Reacting to the attacks from the Lizardfolk, Shyrduin stopped sending ships to Jeuno. Jeuno quickly took action, calling leaders from all the major cities together to meet in Jeuno. It was obvious something needed to be done and they worked out a way to attack the Lizardfolk. Jeuno officials pushed hard for a alliance to be formed under the Jueno flag, but other cities did not favor this option. They did not want a centralized goverment and strongly voted against it. Eventually they settled on the idea that they would work together to fight the Lizardfolk, and give Jeuno power over all trade. This left the other cities still free do do things as they wished. The Athlon Trade League was born on Landero 9, 152 GD. The Athlon Trade League includes the cities of Angrol Kazad, Blacksteel, Jeuno, Shyrduin, and Volmoria. Jeuno would now have the power to control all trade on Athlon. Quickly the League took action and declared war with the Lizardfolk. Jeuno armies combined with Angrol Kazad armies marched north, Blacksteel armies marched east, and Volmoria along with Shyrduin armies marched west, all heading towards Mount Katul, and the heart of the swamps.

  • 154 GD

Saraza was able to hold her own against the armies of Blacksteel, but once Jeuno and Angrol Kazad caught up, she was over run and killed in battle. Drazda however was able retreat all the way back to Mount Katul, and fought for her homeland. The League proved to be too much for the Lizardfolk, Mount Katul was taken, while Drazda was hunted down and killed. The Lizardfolk race suffered a large defeat, losing their homeland, their capital and Mount Katul in the process. The race was not wiped out, but the tribes were once again split.

Jeuno begins to wall off its ports from the main city to prevent such a attack ever happening again. They also begin to build gates across each river to prevent false trade ships from gaining access to Lake Ashby. Jeuno had all power over trade now, and it needed to project a image of safety.

  • 160 GD

Jeuno renovations are completed. The wall in the city creates two separate parts, Jeuno and Port Jeuno. Port Jeuno becomes a holding area for all shipments and people wanting to gain access to the city itself. To keep track of who can and cannot enter, a passport system was implemented. Any ship wanting to sell goods, trade in Jeuno, or use Lake Ashby would be required to show proper documentation at the river gates. Not having proper documentation would result in you and your ship being taken to Port Jeuno and held there until searched. False paperwork, unmarked goods, illegal goods, ect... is all sorted out in Port Jeuno. Ships, goods, and people would all be taken by Jeuno gaurds to prison or warehouses in Port Jeuno. The gates at each dock inside Port Jeuno worked the same way, acting as a second security point incase the river gates failed. The other cities in the League complied with Jeuno rules and required ships leaving their ports to have proper League paperwork.

Jeuno still maintains this system today. All trade is done with the League or it is not done in Jeuno.

The City of Koal[edit]

  • 181 GD

With the Lizardfolk removed from the northern swamps people started to move north again. The swamp areas had very fertile ground for farming so small towns sprung up quickly in the surrounding lands. The mountain region around the swamps had also never been mined, and now was looking like the perfect chance to start. A very wealthy man by the name of Tristan Vaul decided he should be the first to take the chance, so he moved his entire mining operation from the outskirts of Volmoria to Mount Katul.

  • 189 GD

Mr. Vaul successfully set up a mining camp and began mining Mount Katul. This mountain proved to have very rich ore deposits and the rewards quickly started to stack up in Mr. Vaul's favor. Soon his operation grew so large that his mining camp grew into a town, thus the town of Koal was born. Koal is located much closer to Khuul than to Volmoria, it would make sense to ship the goods there. However Mr. Vaul did not want to send his goods to Khuul because his personal docks were in Volmoria, so he built roads for his caravans to travel on. Koal was quickly on the rise to becoming a city.

  • 192 GD

The Lizardfolk gathered together once again and attempted to reclaim Mount Katul. Lead by the last of Crae's descendants, Jazaka, the Bogstalkers attacked the city of Koal. The Bogstalkers numbers were very thin so the battle only lasted a couple days. The city of Koal defended itself easily and the Lizardfolk retreated north into the swampland once again. The Bogstalker tribe itself was wiped out and with it the last of Crae's bloodline.

  • 211 GD

Even after 20 years of mining, Mount Katul still proved to be very rich in treasure. Mr. Vaul had grown old and was no longer able to make the trips from Koal to Volmoria, so he decided to live in Koal. He sent word to Volmoria that if people wanted ores from Mount Katul they would have to come to Koal andd buy them there. Despite this odd request, buyers would come and Mr. Vaul was able to continue his mining business. He built himself a castle and was able to remain in Koal. Tristan Vaul took up the name Lord Vaul.

  • 219 GD

In Balro of 219 GD, Vaul decided he would no longer sell ores to anyone. He did not stop mining Mount Katul however, he was just not longer going to sell what they mined. Lord Vaul kept everything mined from the mountain in one of his keeps and when that keep filled up, he would just build another keep. He set up a way to inspect all miners going in and out of the mines, making sure no one would keep things from him. Lord Vaul at this point in his life was around the age of 78, a long life for a human. Humans expected life span was 70.

  • 234 GD

At the age of 93 Lord Vaul still lived. Koal at this time had stopped growning. No new people ever entered the city, the population was slowing declining, its work force was slowing and the army getting older. The mines continued to produce many riches, however the pace had slowed. Lord Vaul was also growing very paranoid, claiming Lizardfolk were everywhere trying to take his riches. He went so mad with power he sent his soldiers to burn any and all villages within 50 miles of Koal. He needed to know who was out to get his treasures. No one was safe, Lord Vaul had gone mad with power.

  • 237 GD

While his armies were off doing the orders of a mad man, the Lizardfolk did come to Koal. With the loss of the Bogstalkers the number of Blackscales had dropped to almost nothing, so the Lizardfolk had been watching, waiting, planning, and needed the right time to strike. The Athlon Trade League heard of the attacks, but they sent no aid to Koal. Lord Vaul had no allies and no friends, and he died having nothing but his treasure hoard. The city of Koal fell to the Lizardfolk invaders, and Mount Katul had been reclaimed.

Volmoria Burns[edit]

The Lizardfolk had reclaimed Mount Katul, along with the city of Koal, and started the slow process of reclaiming the swampland. Jeuno forces did engage Lizardfolk everytime they attempted to leave the swamp, but did very little for the towns that were now built in the swamps. While skirmishing with the Lizardfolk reports of large numbers of Blackscales started to come in. This was odd knowing that the Blackscale tribes had almost completely been wiped out.

  • 242 GD

Skirmish battles with the Lizardfolk continue and so do the reports of Blackscales in their ranks. Reports differ from battle to battle, some now even claim the Blackscale had grown horns. Jeuno decided it was time to see what was taking place in the ruins of Koal.

At first sending small scout teams into Koal was easy, but eventually the Lizardfolk would catch on. Based on reports from the scouts the Lizardfolk continued to mine Mount Katul, using slaves from the near by towns. The small towns in the swamps that sprang up during the reign of Lord Vaul were all destroyed by the Lizardfolk. Scouts also report that the number of Blackscales did infact increase dramatically, however the description given did not fit with discriptions of the Bogstalker tribe. These looked more like smaller Lizardfolk, but with blackscales and horns.

The other cities no longer liked the idea of Jeuno spying on the Lizardfolk and provoking them to attack, so they voiced their concerns. Jeuno built Embassies for each city inside Port Jeuno, along with letting each city have a ambassador live inside Jeuno itself. Jeuno even set up monthly hearings for cities to come together and voice their views and opinions on how The Athlon Trade League should handle things. So based on the views of other cities Jeuno stopped spying on them and removed their scouts from the swamps.

Jeuno did continue to take reports from freelance scouts who happened to still be in the area. These reports indicated that the Lizardfolk belived something to be missing from Mount Katul, something that belonged to them, something they would take with force if need be.

In 251 GD, the Lizardfolk attacked the city of Volmoria and nearly took it over. The amount of damage done to the city left Volmoria in ruins. For 7 days the Lizardfolk ran the streets burning buildings and killing everyone. The Trade league was able to take the city back, but it was not easy. These new blackscales now numbered in the thousands, and they were much more deadly than any blackscale ever was. With a army of these they did what other Lizardfolk armies had been trying to do forr the last 250 years, take one of the Trade League cities. The trade League finally decided it might be time to be diplomatic with the Lizardfolk.

Treaty with the Lizardfolk[edit]

  • 252 GD

On Ndra 4, 252 GD represenatives from each of the cities in the Athlon Trade League met outside of the northern swamps with a Lizardfolk named Varzdan. Varzdan was one of the new breed of blackscale and spoke on behalf of the Lizardfolk tribes. No one knew if he was the new leader or was just the one chosen to meet with the Trade League. The meeting ended on the terms that no more attacks would be made by Lizardfolk on any city for one full year. After one year, if Varzdan's demands were not met, Lizardfolk would begin attacking every city on Athlon, starting with Jeuno.

The represenatives returned to Jeuno and discussed how to deal with Varzdan's demands. He demanded that stolen property from Mount Katul, mined by Lord Vaul, be returned to his posession. Varzdan went on to describe the object and gave details of when they last saw it. Varzdan tracked it to Volmoria, burned the city looking for it, and now blames Jeuno for shipping it somewhere else from Volmoria. Efforts to attack the Lizardfolk would result in a full attack on Jeuno, then the rest of the Trade League, then every other town, until Athlon is under Lizardfolk control.
