Canon:Fantasy Community Council
Fantasy Community Council (FanCC) is a non-profit organization that is dedicated to developing role-playing game content under the Open Gaming License (OGL). The material is contributed entirely by volunteers and then reviewed, edited, and assembled into netbooks by specialized groups. The FanCC is open to anybody who completes and signs an agreement to hold to the terms of the OGL.
The organization was founded in 2001 by Brad Bemis as the Dungeons & Dragons Community Council. Later the name was revised to be more general, and to avoid legal issues with the use of the name Dungeons & Dragons, which is owned by Wizards of the Coast, Inc.
In 2005, the Council decided to bring their organizational efforts to a close. The market for gaming supplements had become saturated with products marketed under the OGL, so interest in the FanCC had declined. Some individual netbook teams, however, will still continue to function. (Including the Netbook of Feats and the Netbook of Witches.)
Publications[edit]
Since their inception, FanCC has published at least one, and some cases several finished editions of the following netbooks:
- Netbook of Classes
- Netbook of Feats
- Netbook of Magical Treasures
- Netbook of NPCs
- Netbook of Races
- Netbook of Spells and Magic
- Netbook of Time
- Netbook of Witches
Various other loosely-associated netbook publications have also been released, and additional netbook project groups have also been formed. Most of the FanCC netbooks have been published under the D20 system license.
