Insidious Parasite[edit]

Some Eldritch Horrors aspire to be small, manipulative pests. To achieve that end, they slowly reshape theirselves into a smaller and more untrackable entity.

Making an Insidious Parasite[edit]

Insidious Parasites do sneaky stuff and mind control, but aren't particularly tough.

Abilities: Insidious Parasites like Dexterity and Charisma.

Races: Eldritch Horrors are the only ones who become Insidious Parasites.

Class Features[edit]

All of the following are class features of the Insidious Parasite.

Weapon and Armor Proficiency: Insidious Parasites are proficient with light simple and light martial weapons, and with light armor.

Ability Score Boosts: The Insidious Parasite's Dexterity and Charisma improve with level.

Suppress Aura: The Insidious Parasite can choose to suppress or stop suppressing its Aura of Horror as a swift action.

Size Reduction: At levels 2, 5, 9, and 15, the Insidious Parasite's size decreases by one step. This does not change the Insidious Parasite's ability scores.

Insidious Attribute: At levels 1, 4, 7, 10, 12, 14, 17, and 19, the Insidious Parasite gains an attribute from the following table:

Table: Insidious Attributes

Attribute Name Prerequisites Effect
Believable Dreams (Sp) When you use Whispers of Madness on someone, you may affect them as per modify memory instead of making them confused. At character level 9, this becomes instantaneous instead of permanent.
Sibilant Tongues (Ex) You get a +5 +character level competence bonus to your Bluff, Diplomacy, and Truespeak checks.
Reality Burrowing (Sp) By spending any number of full-round actions, you can imitate dimension door to teleport a distance equal to the number of actions you spent, squared, × your class level × 5'. This ability has somatic components. At character level 13, you may spend move actions instead.
Planar Tunneling (Sp) Reality Burrowing When you use Reality Burrowing, you can create a portal from your current location to the target location, like the travelling form of gate instead of door, with a 1 round/level (D) duration. This ability has somatic components. At character level 13, you can make the target location portal appear at any place you have seen in the past day (via scrying or some similar ability), but only once every 1d4 hours.
Skulldweller (Ex) As a coup de grace against an opponent two or more sizes larger than you, you can make that opponent take a Fortitude save (DC 10 + half character level + Dexterity modifier), you can burrow into their nervous system, taking control of their body and hiding within them. You can make them do things by spending equivalent actions; they can't choose to do anything on their own while you are within them. Anything that affects the creature has (only) a 50% chance of affecting you as well. Leaving their body takes a full-round action, which may be a full-round action to use Skulldweller on another opponent. They remember everything they did while you controlled them.
Skinbag (Ex) You can SRD:Disguise yourself as any creature of any size from your own to Medium size as a standard action, without penalties for imitating creatures of a different gender, race, or age category. You can create what appears to be clothing with this action, but doing so gives you a -5 penalty to this Disguise check as the clothing is really part of your body.
Flickering Imperception (Su) You always have concealment.
Control the Uncontrollable (Su) You can give orders to any confused creatures, and they will obey as though you were dominating them and they weren't confused. When a confused creature stops being confused, it also stops obeying your order. When a confused creature finishes any tasks it has been given, it resumes acting like a normal confused creature. If a confused creature has no further guidance from you for more than an hour, it resumes being confused again, although it continues attempting to obey on a roll of "Do nothing but babble incoherently". The first time you give a confused creature an order in this way, they get a Will save to resist (DC 10 + half character level + Charisma modifier); if they fail, you can command them freely for 24 hours, and if they succeed, you cannot command them at all for 24 hours.
Incomprehensible Gaze (Su) You gain a gaze attack with a range of 5' per character level. Victims of the gaze attack must make a Will save (DC 10 + half character level + Charisma modifier) or become permanently confused. Creatures which successfully save against this attack cannot be affected by it for 24 hours.
Images of Despair (Sp) You can imitate the phantasmal killer, silent image, and ghost sound spells at-will, as a caster of your class level. At caster level 9, these spells cannot be detected as illusions by magical means, and you may selectively choose targets you can see to perceive the silent images and ghost sounds differently.

Aberrant Attribute: At levels 3, 6, 8, 11, 13, 16, 18, and 20, the Insidious Parasite gains an attribute from the following table:

Table: Aberrant Attributes

Attribute Name Prerequisites Effect
Horrible Wings (Ex) You gain a 20' +5'/character level clumsy fly speed. This improves to average at character level 7, and good at character level 16.
Incomprehensible Swooping (Ex) Horrible Wings Your fly speed increases by 30' +10'/character level and its maneuverability improves by one step.
Skittering Scuttling (Ex) You gain a 20' +5'/character level climb speed, and your base land speed increases by 5'/character level.
Alacritous Haste (Ex) All movement speeds you possess increase by 10'/character level.
Incomprehensible Armor (Ex) You gain an armor bonus equal to 5 + one-half your character level.
Alien Biology (Ex) You become immune to critical hits, poisons, diseases, death effects, and mind-affecting effects. This is obvious to any outside observer who sees what you look like (noticing any disguises) and succeeds on a DC 10 Knowledge (Dungeoneering) check.
Inconceivable Recovery (Ex) You naturally heal 3 hit points per round. In addition, you regrow body parts 1d4 rounds after they are removed.
Unkillable Menace (Su) Inconceivable Recovery While you are dead, continue keeping track of your hit point total, and continue regaining health from Inconceivable Recovery. If you ever gets to -9 or more health, you stop being dead. Effects that would normally kill you without changing your hit point total set your hit point total to -200.
An Excess of Eyes (Ex) Your profusion of eyes gives you a +8 to Spot and Search checks, and makes it so you can't be flanked.

Ex-Insidious Parasites[edit]

Characters who somehow stop being Eldritch Horrors lose all benefits of this class. If the change is permanent, they may replace their Insidious Parasite levels with other class levels.
