"Mialee, what does scan say about its power level?" "IT'S OVER CR 9000!!!!" -- Dracomortis 18:31, January 10, 2010 (UTC)
Well, if a farmer is CR 1/2 and has a power level of 5, and power level is a linear scale while CR is an exponential one, I do believe that a creature with power level 9000 would be about CR 19. --Foxwarrior 18:48, 15 February 2012 (UTC)

Holy crap is this a much needed spell in D&D! I have made the spell in several different ways, none of which were as elegant as this one. It allows people to still make use of high knowledge skill ranks (ie. it isn't like Knock, trivializing an entire skill), but it also gives that versatility that parties might want to actually identify opponents.

Also, some minor thoughts:

  • 1000 gp is very expensive at level 3, even though it is a one-time cost.
  • This spell could probably sit with a flat +2 bonus as a cantrip, which I think I would like even more.
  • Since this is second level, it could probably provide a detect magic against the target, identifying buff spells.
  • Are unique beings able to be identified with this spell? That should probably be covered in some way: it should at least be able to tell me Goku's class levels.
  • Maybe no matter what it should give the creature's CR?

Cheers! --Aarnott 17:45, 15 February 2012 (UTC)
