<Axaj> whoo <Havvy> MisterSinister: Do you know anything about channel management? <MisterSinister> Havvy: Not much. <MisterSinister> Alrighty, let me commence with my big introduction, while Havvy does his magic. <Axaj> sounds good <MisterSinister> First-off, the most important thing. <MisterSinister> The setting. <MisterSinister> Now, I want you guys to imaging yourselves as coming from a regional superpower, in an Iron Age setting. <MisterSinister> It's a powerful city-state, kinda like Athens or Novgorod would have been. <MisterSinister> People are well-off, well-educated, and generally have a good life. <ModestHavvy> MisterSinister: Voice and Devoice people as you want them to be able to talk in here. <MisterSinister> Part of growing up there is that all young people (age 14 or so) are sent out on their own to the wider world, to return later with their knowledge and experience. <MisterSinister> Which is what happened to you folks. <MisterSinister> So you went out, did your thing, etc. <MisterSinister> Now, the city is about to celebrate 100 years since its founding. <MisterSinister> Now, back then, this is a BIG thing. <ModestHavvy> Axaj, otz: Register your nick please. /ns register yourPass yourWorkingEmail <Axaj> k <MisterSinister> Wars were common, people die young, that kinda thing. <MisterSinister> So your home city survived. <MisterSinister> And you all decided to return for the celebrations. <MisterSinister> To see your families, friends, whatever. <MisterSinister> What'll happen is up to you all. <MisterSinister> I'll be running it fairly sandbox. <MisterSinister> There'll be events. <MisterSinister> You guys can take part. <MisterSinister> Make your own. <MisterSinister> Try and run for the Senate. Whatever. <Axaj> lol <Xeadin> Heh <Axaj> sounds good <Xeadin> Not sure a kobold rogue could do that :P <MisterSinister> The city is very cosmopolitan. <MisterSinister> Although yes, racial minorities do have a representational problem. <MisterSinister> Now, any things about the setting you guys wanna check with me? <ModestHavvy> otz: Still awaiting registration from you. <Xeadin> Well, concerning my character: Is there any Thieves' Guild or some sort of secretive organization of assassins or something along those lines in this city? <ModestHavvy> Who was the fourth? <OTZ> vhy <MisterSinister> Our fourth is Alex2. <MisterSinister> Xeadin: There's several. <MisterSinister> You can even found one if you want. <Xeadin> Heh <Axaj> hmm <Axaj> what balance level should we aim for <Xeadin> Alrighty. I've never played that sort of character before, but I'll give it my best whirl <Xeadin> And this is 3.5, right? <MisterSinister> Axaj: Rules content will commence shortly. <Xeadin> Right. My next question-- what character level are we starting at? <MisterSinister> Xeadin: Sorta. Lotsa houserules. <OTZ> wtf <MisterSinister> Now, let's begin the rules part. <OTZ> How obscure does a password have to be? <ModestHavvy> You aren't adding your nick to the list of params are you? <MisterSinister> Level: 3rd. <ModestHavvy> /ns register yourPass yourEmail << nowhere do you tell it your nickname. <Axaj> aww <Axaj> i was hoping for a higher level <MisterSinister> Too low for you, Axaj? <Axaj> like 6 or 7 <Axaj> it should still work <ModestHavvy> (It registers the nickname based on what your current nick is) <Axaj> hmm <OTZ> Byah <MisterSinister> Well, I COULD do 5. <MisterSinister> But at this point, you guys are seriously awesome. <MisterSinister> And likely WELL into your 20s. <MisterSinister> With stories, affiliations, friends in various high and low places, etc. <Axaj> hmm <MisterSinister> If this is cool by you all, I can dig it. <ModestHavvy> otz: /msg me the command you are sending it. <OTZ> Nah, I'm good. Byah = success. <Xeadin> I can stand level 5. Id' have to do some downsizing my character from level 7 :P <MisterSinister> Now, in terms of houserules. Prepare for a motherload of wiki links. <Xeadin> Oh boy <Axaj> uh oh <OTZ> Yay, motherlode. <MisterSinister> Level 5 suits me. <Axaj> the wiki's being slow ModestHavvy doesn't see any success. <Axaj> 3: <OTZ> I assume hit points, skill points. <MisterSinister> http://www.dnd-wiki.org/wiki/Ability_Arrays_%283.5e_Variant_Rule%29 <MisterSinister> This is for stats. <MisterSinister> We'll be using the HIGH power array. <Axaj> the page is taking forever to load <Axaj> is it like point buy? <MisterSinister> Nope. You get an array of numbers. You put them where you want them. <MisterSinister> Everyone gets the same one. <Axaj> ah <MisterSinister> 16, 15, 14, 13, 12, 10 <ModestHavvy> Axaj: Seems to be your internet. <MisterSinister> Arrange as you like. <Xeadin> Oohhh... nice. I like that :D <Axaj> well, other sites are just fine <ModestHavvy> Then it's a link between the site and your house. It loads quickly for me. <MisterSinister> Next: http://www.dnd-wiki.org/wiki/Better_Hit_Points_%283.5e_Variant_Rule%29 <MisterSinister> Basically: we don't roll hit points, and people get more of them as a general rule. <Xeadin> Which array of hit points? The first list? <MisterSinister> The array is the high one. <MisterSinister> 16, 15, 14, 13, 12, 10 <Xeadin> Hit Points <MisterSinister> It depends on your hit die. <MisterSinister> If you have a d6 hit die under the old system, you get 12 hp at level 1, and 4 at every other level. <MisterSinister> Con applies, obviously. <Xeadin> Ahh. Okay <Axaj> what next? <MisterSinister> http://www.dnd-wiki.org/wiki/Fixed_Bonus_Types_%283.5e_Variant_Rule%29 <MisterSinister> That. <MisterSinister> This is pretty big. <ModestHavvy> What about the one linked to it? <MisterSinister> Basically: "No bullshit bonuses". <MisterSinister> Havvy: That one too. <ModestHavvy> http://www.dnd-wiki.org/wiki/New_Level-Dependent_Benefits_%283.5e_Variant_Rule%29 <ModestHavvy> Also a big one. <MisterSinister> Thanks Havvy. <MisterSinister> That one is basically "Items do not equal numbers - levels equal numbers". <Xeadin> So... no racial bonuses granted from a race? <MisterSinister> Nope - races don't give numbers, they give abilities. <ModestHavvy> Bonuses are re-typed. <MisterSinister> Like Small size, or stonecutting, etc. <ModestHavvy> Oh wait, Simplified Races? <MisterSinister> Havvy: Was getting to that. <ModestHavvy> Yes/No? <MisterSinister> Yes, but with a slight change. <MisterSinister> In that 'you tell me your race and what it does, and we write it together'. <ModestHavvy> http://www.dnd-wiki.org/wiki/Simplified_Races_%283.5e_Variant_Rule%29 but with a slight change. <MisterSinister> Thanks Havvy. <MisterSinister> Let's give them time to digest. :P <Xeadin> So, all classes use this same table, ir is this just a generic thing for all players? <ModestHavvy> Xeadin: Generic thing for all players. <Xeadin> I see <Xeadin> I have a lot to do to my character then <Axaj> hmm <MisterSinister> Any questions about this stuff so far? There is more. <Axaj> last one is still loading <Axaj> for me <Axaj> :/ <Xeadin> Concerning races: Are the benefits additions, or replacements? <MisterSinister> Replacements. <ModestHavvy> FYI: I'll be creating a general write-up of all of this. <Xeadin> Okay <OTZ> I have about 31 minutes of battery, but should probably try to sleep before then. A quick gloss over the rest would be cool. <OTZ> I can read later on my own time, though I'm already familiar with much of this. <Axaj> so <MisterSinister> Right, next few bits. <Axaj> small characters have 10ft base speed? <Axaj> ick <MisterSinister> Axaj: No - 20ft. <Axaj> but <Xeadin> So, the kobold loses the ability adjustments... <MisterSinister> Again, races will be written by us together. <Axaj> Small: You are small with all the benefits and drawbacks that go with it, and reduce your base speed by 1/3. <Axaj> oh <Axaj> wait <Axaj> it's by 1/3 <Axaj> not to 1/3 <Axaj> nevermind then <Axaj> carry on <Xeadin> Heh <Xeadin> I had a heck of a time deciphering that one as well <Axaj> so, what next <MisterSinister> By 1/3. <MisterSinister> Not TO 1/3. <MisterSinister> http://www.dnd-wiki.org/wiki/Better_Initiative_%283.5e_Variant_Rule%29 <MisterSinister> http://www.dnd-wiki.org/wiki/More_Stable_Saves_%283.5e_Variant_Rule%29 <MisterSinister> http://www.dnd-wiki.org/wiki/Simplified_Skills_%283.5e_Variant_Rule%29 <MisterSinister> Those are all minor changes, but still important. <MisterSinister> Yeah, it had a bit of writing fail. :P <MisterSinister> Got the links, Axaj? <Axaj> yes <MisterSinister> Ok, now, the rest is like this. <MisterSinister> Classes: I accept any serious proposal. WotC, homebrew, this wiki, my stuff, anyone's stuff, run it by me. <MisterSinister> I'll try and keep everyone in the same parameters. <MisterSinister> Feats: See above. <MisterSinister> Skills: We can use either regular skills, or, if you guys are feeling adventurous, Tome of Prowess. <Axaj> regular <MisterSinister> This is up to you - I don't mind either way. <Axaj> :p <ModestHavvy> Q: BP? <OTZ> Very Casper-esque changes. <MisterSinister> Balance point is high rogue, low-wizard. <Axaj> good <MisterSinister> Last, but not least: Don't be a douchebag. <MisterSinister> If you try and pull stupid shit, I'll do the same. <MisterSinister> Keep theoretical builds out of my game, and I'll keep theoretical builds out of my game too. <MisterSinister> I'm not assuming anything - just a warning. <Axaj> what do you mean, "theoretical" <OTZ> No Pun-Pun. <OTZ> 1d2 Crusader. <MisterSinister> Stuff that does millions of damage, uses infinite series etc. <OTZ> Et cetera. <OTZ> Mailman sorcerers. <Axaj> so, nothing ridiculously optimized? <Xeadin> Oohhh... I like the Better Initiative page. Makes it have a more 4e feel :D <MisterSinister> Axaj: More or less that. <MisterSinister> Xeadin: I like some things 4e did. <Axaj> hmm <MisterSinister> Now, I do want backgrounds. <MisterSinister> Good backgrounds make our jobs easier. <Axaj> well, there is a build I may want to do <Axaj> that is fairly complicated <OTZ> I will determine which class I desire. Background will follow. Now shlep. <Axaj> so, is that all we need to hear for now? <Axaj> I should be getting to bet now <Axaj> *bed <MisterSinister> For now, yes. <Axaj> k <Axaj> night, then <MisterSinister> See ya! <MisterSinister> Thanks for volunteering. :D <MisterSinister> Xeadin: Since you're hovering - anything you wanna ask? <Xeadin> So, we gain skill points without them multiplied <Xeadin> correct? <MisterSinister> Correct. <ModestHavvy> MisterSinister: I'm going to make a template for simplified races. <Xeadin> Like (5 + Int) x4. None of that? Alrighty <MisterSinister> Havvy: Much appreciated. :D <Xeadin> But still added by Intelligence? <MisterSinister> Yep. <Xeadin> And a skill with ranks gets a +3 bonus. That I like. <MisterSinister> So what is your kobold dude currently? <Xeadin> Level 5 Kobold Rogue. Name: Sar’fakrin Grizzymot <Xeadin> Might change the name to something else <MisterSinister> I think you can easily use the rogue as he is, or a variant of some sort. <MisterSinister> Some skills will be combined together, too - so you'll like that. <MisterSinister> But I'll mention that with the others. <Xeadin> Ah. <Xeadin> That would be tomorrow, or whenever everyone is present once again? <ModestHavvy> MisterSinister: Say it now. <MisterSinister> Ah, you're logging this. <MisterSinister> Craft is one skill - for each level you have, you pick another kind of crafting. At 1st level, you pick two. <MisterSinister> Same with Perform. <MisterSinister> Profession isn't a skill anymore - if your backgrounds says you can, you can. <MisterSinister> Balance and Tumble become Acrobatics. <Xeadin> Hmm... so by level 20, you would have 22 crafting skills? :/ <Xeadin> Oh, cool <MisterSinister> By level 20, you're close to a god. <MisterSinister> I actually don't care how much shit you can make. :P <Xeadin> XD <MisterSinister> Climb and Swim become Athletics. <MisterSinister> Open Lock is gone. Decipher Script is gone. Forgery is gone. <Xeadin> What about Jump? <MisterSinister> Disable Device folds in Open Lock. <MisterSinister> Jump stays as Jump. <Xeadin> Okay <MisterSinister> Appraise folds in Decipher Script. <MisterSinister> Craft folds in Forgery. <Xeadin> I see <MisterSinister> Use Magic Device can't mimic caster levels above your own. <MisterSinister> Is there anything egregious I missed, Havvy? <MisterSinister> Oh, DUH. <MisterSinister> Hide and Move Silently become Stealth. <MisterSinister> Listen and Spot become Perception. <Xeadin> Ah. That's what I was about to ask <MisterSinister> Diplomacy won't let you rule the world, but I figured you got that. :P <MisterSinister> I think I have it pretty well-covered. <MisterSinister> So yeah, them's skills. <ModestHavvy> How are you running diplomancy? <ModestHavvy> Err, sans the n. <MisterSinister> Now, did you see the kobold on the Simplified Races page? <MisterSinister> I'm happy to give you that one, if it's OK by you. <MisterSinister> I'll try to find some sane rules for it, but definitely not as it's written in the PHB. <Xeadin> I did <MisterSinister> Did it suit? <Xeadin> :O <Xeadin> Blood of the Dragon! No way! :D <MisterSinister> I take that as 'yes, thanks'. :P <Xeadin> I do like it. <MisterSinister> I'm seriously expanding the spells it applies to, by the way. <MisterSinister> I'll pass you a full list right now. <Xeadin> Alright <Xeadin> Hmm... no ability adjustment, eh. Well, the High ability array should do the trick <MisterSinister> resistance, detect magic, detect poison, read magic, burning hands, flare, ghost sound, light, mage hand, magic missile, shadowlight, shocking grasp, unseen servant, magic aura, ventriloquism, chill touch, touch of fatigue, blight, erase, gentle repose, hold portal, mending, arcane mark, message, prestidigitation <MisterSinister> THAT is the full list. <Xeadin> Sweet <MisterSinister> Shadowlight = Darkness to you folks back home. <Xeadin> Hmm... I would like to take Magic Missile, but that's not very rogue-like... >.> <MisterSinister> Well, it's to do with your being a dragon-descendant. <MisterSinister> So I think it fits just fine. :D <Xeadin> Now prestidigitation, ghost soung, light, and mage hand are more rogue-like <Xeadin> And shadowlihgt wuld help in hiding him a lot better <MisterSinister> True. <MisterSinister> Well, whichever one you want, feel free to choose. <MisterSinister> OK, now I have to vanish. <MisterSinister> But enjoy that. <MisterSinister> Check out my stuff, too. <MisterSinister> You may like some of the feats. <Xeadin> Alrighty. Sounds good <MisterSinister> But I'll catch you another time. <Xeadin> Alright <Xeadin> cya
