Most tanuki loath to fight, especially alone, but will do so if absolutely necessary. They will usually attempt to full-attack a flanked or flat-footed subject to debilitate them with their sneak attack, otherwise they are going to get defeated against all but the weakest foe. A tanuki will attack foes with  cold iron weapon first, as it greatly reduce their ability to survive if such weapon are wielded. Once the opportunity present itself, a tanuki will flee.
