== Phantasmal Echo ==

[[Summary::Unusually strong emotions sometimes impress themselves on the plane of shadow, forming something akin to a ghost but solid, and without a soul.  It is merely a sensation or memory given flesh.  More often then not, they are born out of violence and anger, and the resulting phantom poses a threat to all those who trigger its presence.]]

A phantasmal echo creature isn't really a creature in the truest sense.  They are more of a intelligent trap which forms from places of great emotional importance.  The concepts become imprinted on the plane of shadow, posing a threat to travelers on the plane of shadow and even sometimes posing a threat on the material plane.  All phantasmal echoes are temporary existences unaware how many times they've played out.

A phantasmal echo is an inherited template which can be applied to any non-mindless creature.

The creature retains it's size and type, even though technically it is more akin to a spell effect.  It gains the Extraplanar subtype, except on the Plane of Shadow.

'''Phantasmal Trigger {{Ex}}:''' Typically a phantasmal echo lies in a state of non-existence until it is triggered to appear, which can be anywhere in an area up to 1000 ft in radius.  The trigger varies from phantasmal echo to phantasmal echo, and can be as simple as moving into a certain square or performing a certain action in an area, to as complex as requiring a specific person to do a specific action at a specific time and place.  Whatever the cause, once activated the phantasmal echo appears in a random valid location within 10 x 1d100 ft of the creature who triggered it, and immediately begins acting.  The behavior of the phantasmal echo varies, but it often represents the mindset, memories, and emotions of the one who created the phantasmal echo in the first place at the time.  The echo is as intelligent as the base creature was, but nearly overwhelmed by its creating emotions.  Often this is anger, and its anger will direct it to any creatures in range.  To the phantasmal echo, it sees everything as it was at the time of creation and will not recognize friend or foe.

The phantasmal echo will exist until it is destroyed, or for 1 minute per HD of the creature, after which it disperses into shadowstuff.  Once the phantasmal echo goes inert again, the phantasmal echo may once again be triggered, appearing back as it was in the beginning with no memory of the previous echo or anything it did.

The only way to destroy a phantasmal echo for good is defeating it on the plane of shadow.  Destroying it on the plane of shadow kills it for good and removes the trigger.  ''[[SRD:Mage's Disjunction|Mage's disjunction]]'' also can destroy it if cast on the location of the trigger.
