“ | What's mine is yours, whether you like it or not. | ” |
—Adela Vankar, Duskling Mythbinder, The Many Curiosities of Incarnum |
Meldshapers spend their lives learning to shape soulstuff into soulmelds to empower and protect themselves; But a select few learn how to turn this power outward, binding detrimental effects into their foes. These are known as Mythbinders.
Becoming a MythbinderEdit
Typically Mythbinders are Meldshapers who decided to experiment after seeing how easily a spellcaster can debilitate enemies; They must learn how to concentrate well in order to affect others, and learn some things about Spellcraft, before they can mimic spell effects with their Meldshaping.

Class FeaturesEdit
All of the following are class features of the Mythbinder.
Meldshaping: At each level, you gain Essentia points per day, Chakra binds known, soulmelds shaped and an increase in meldshaper level as if you had also gained a level in a meldshaping class to which you belonged before adding the prestige class level. You do not, however, gain any other benefit a character of that class would have gained (Except new Soulmelds known, sometimes called Eclectic Learning). If you had more than one meldshaping class before becoming a Mythbinder, you must decide to which class to add each level for the purpose of determining Essentia per day, chakra binds, and etc.
Spellshaping (Su): The Mythbinder's signature ability is a Mythbind, being able to bind detrimental effects to their opponents, in the form of forcing soulmeld-like spells onto them. Upon taking their first level in this class, the Mythbinder chooses two first-level spells they can use with this ability; Every level thereafter they learn one additional spell of any level available to them. Their maximum spell level known is equal to one-half their class level. They can choose spells from any class lists (Using the highest spell level), with the limitation that the spell must have a duration of longer than instantaneous and effect only a single target such as a touch spell, ray, or single-target spell like Hold Person, and the spell cannot have a material component worth more than 1 GP, nor an XP component; Once chosen, spells can never be changed. If the spell requires a focus, the Mythbinder must have it in-hand to use the spell. This ability grants the Mythbinder a Caster Level equal to Meldshaper level, thus allowing them to qualify for spellcasting prestige classes. Mythbinder spells are neither arcane nor divine (But count as both for purposes of prerequisites), and suffer no failure from armor. (At the DM's option, you may also have the option of choosing beneficial spells you can bind to your allies in the same way.)
To use a Mythbind, they must first succeed on a melee touch attack (a standard action); When doing so, they invest Essentia points from their pool into the target. They must invest a number of point into their target at least equal to the level of the spell they intend to shape onto their target. They may invest a maximum number of Essentia points into a single target with this ability equal to the maximum spell level they know.
Then, they must use a full-round action that provokes attacks of opportunity to shape the spell; In order to do so, they must have line of sight and line of effect to the target, the target must be within Long range (400ft + 40ft/Meldshaper level) and must be on the same plane of existence. Spell Resistance applies to a spell shaped in this manner, regardless of whether or not the original spell allowed SR. They can speed up the time it takes to shape a spell; Doing so requires them to make a Concentration or Spellcraft check to speed up this process to the spell's normal casting time or to a Standard action (Whichever would be higher); The DC for this check is equal to the target's touch AC + the spell's level; But this shaping time reduction can only be applied to spells of a level no higher than your Constitution or Wisdom modifier (Whichever governs your meldshaping). Once this is done, the target is subject to the saving throw of the spell, whatever it may be. The save DC for spells used in this manner is equal to 1/2 your Meldshaper Level + the spell's level + Essentia invested + your Con or Wis modifier (whichever governs your soulmelds).
If the target fails their save, they are subject the the spell's effects indefinitely, until they die, the Meldshaper releases them from the spell (A move action) or the amount of Essentia invested in the spell drops below the minimum needed to sustain the spell; This means the person can be Slowed or Paralyzed indefinitely, or slowly eaten away by the per-round damage of Acid Arrow, be Cursed all day, and the like. The spells can be dispelled (Caster Level is equal to Meldshaper level) but the essentia remains invested in the target until the Meldshaper regains his essentia for the day, or unless a spell or effect is used to rend the Essentia from the target's body; Thus the Meldshaper can spend another action to re-shape the Mythbind.
When the target is slain or the Meldshaper chooses to release the target from the spell, the Essentia immediately returns to their Essentia pool.
Metamagic feats can be used with Mythbound spells; Using 1 point of Essentia per spell level increase, but the limit for Essentia per target still applies.
If a Mythbinder has access to Chakra binds, then they may spend an additional full-round action (Speeding it up as normal if eligible) to Bind the Mythbound spell to one of the target's Chakras, as long as the Mythbinder themselves have access to that Chakra. Foes are allowed a saving throw to resist these effects, as the same save DC of the spell. Chakra Bind effects are shown on the table below. (At the DM's option, if you have the ability to use beneficial shaped spells on your allies and have access to chakra binds, the binds instead grant a bonus where they would incur a penalty; These are shown on the table for reference.)
Chakra | Effect (Harmful) | Effect (Beneficial) |
---|---|---|
Crown | Penalty on Will saves equal to Essentia invested. | Bonus on Will saves equal to Essentia invested. |

Throat | Target cannot speak; Penalty to Charisma-based skills equal to twice the number of Essentia invested. | Target is immune to silence; Bonus to all Charisma-based checks equal to twice the Essentia invested. |
Waist | Penalty on Fortitude saves equal to Essentia invested; Negates Mettle. | Bonus on Fort saves equal to Essentia invested, as well as Mettle. |
Heart | Ignore and negates energy immunity, treating as 50% damage reduction instead. Percentage reduction drops by 5% per point of Essentia. | Target takes only 50% damage from fire, cold, acid, sonic and electricity, -5% per Essentia invested. |
Soul | Negates immunity to poison, disease, critical hits, sneak attacks, and magic immunity (Instead treating immunity to sneak attacks and crits as 25% fortification and magic immunity as Spell Resistance equal to 10 + target's CR). | Grants immunity to Poison and disease; 25% fortification, and Spell Resistance equal to 10 + target's Effective Character Level. |
Essentia: At 2nd level and every 4 levels thereafter, the Mythbinder's Essentia pool permanently increases by 1, in addition to the increase in Essentia pool they gain from their increase in Meldshaper level.
Bonus Feats: At 3rd, 5th, 7th and 9th level, the Mythbinder gains a bonus feat; These must be either Incarnum feats or Metamagic feats. The Mythweaver must qualify for any feat they gain by manner of this class feature.

The epic Mythbinder gains a bonus Incarnum or Metamagic feat at 11th level and every 4 levels thereafter.
Campaign InformationEdit
Playing a MythbinderEdit
Combat: Normally, your role in combat doesn't change from what it was before you chose this prestige class, with the exception that you can now apply detrimental effects to foes via touch attacks, effectively.
Advancement: Some choose the path of the Soulcaster or Sapphire Hierarch in order to advance both their Meldshaping and their spellcasting at the same time, in addition to giving them a few tricks. Indeed, some choose the path of the Necrocarnate in order to gain more Essentia with which to hinder their foes by harvesting it from fallen enemies. However, simply returning to your previous meldshaping class until epic levels and then becoming an Epic Mythbinder tends to be the most efficent route to power.
Resources: Most Mythbinders are solitary, but do tend to share stories and odd tidbits of knowledge with each other when they meet. Beyond that, a Mythbinder of non-evil alignment may choose to lend aid to another Mythbinder, but may expect repayment, just as anyone would.
Mythbinders in the WorldEdit
“ | Once I get my hands on you, your soul will be mine, and I can do whatever I want to you, wherever you may go this day. You can't run from your own soul. | ” |
Typically Mythbinders fall into the same roles as ordinary meldshapers of their ilk do.
NPC Reactions: NPCs tend to react to Mythbinders no differently than they would an ordinary meldshaper.
