Talk:Dark Insight Incantation (3.5e Variant Rule)
CommentsEdit
Why only casters, should thees spells not be for all to cast (and be corupted by) maybe just pay more madness/HP when you cast or have a extra price if you cast them without having spell slots. I think it would be more in the lovecraftian feel if all could cast these. just my five cents - Wildmage Talk 17:42, 20 October 2015 (UTC)
- Well there are ways to get spells even without being a caster (especially in homebrew), like born wizard. Giving spells to non-caster is something that should require a permanent investment, like a feat. --Leziad (talk) 17:58, 20 October 2015 (UTC)

Not sure I understand the mathEdit
With spells that have madness costs, let's say you're a 7th-level spellcaster that has access to 4th-level spells. This means you need a Dark Insight score of 8. That means that your Madness level to Mindbreak is a base of 2, and to reach 6 you would need a Wisdom of 18. The only 4th-level spell, Termination of Will, has a madness cost of 6. This means that you'd need a Wisdom score of 20 just to not even Mindbreak when you cast Termination of Will once. Is that desired? It seems really excessive. Furthermore, I'm not sure I see any rules for actually regaining Dark Insight once you pay it to cast a spell. Surgo (talk) 20:22, 20 October 2015 (UTC)
- It is a feature but only insofar as there going to be work around. Termination of Will is also a bit weird since it predate insight spells. There will be PrCs and stuff, right now there is only the Occultist feat that make casting dark Insight spells a lot easier. There will be more material on that, but yeah some spells do have a high madness cost, I will reduce termination of will later.
- As for dark insight, you need to adventure more essentially. Find more horror and dark tomes to read, etc. Dark Insight is a river, but I guess I should facilitate it. There is also the dark knowledge feat which net you an essentially unlimited amount of insight to spend (which is not a big deal, since 5 is enough to cast 2nd level DI spell but not higher). I should probably compile all this material, shouldn't I? --Leziad (talk) 20:34, 20 October 2015 (UTC)
- Whsipers of Otherworlds is now made, it has a high madness cost but since it an out of combat thing it should be fine (it also flavorful). That said it shouldn't be too needed assuming you fight a good numbers of aberrations/otherworldly creature, and honestly if a game use both dark insight and mindbreak there should be no shortage. --Leziad (talk) 20:44, 20 October 2015 (UTC)
