Sentient Divination

That reflection seems suspiciously like a perfectly clear image of the pivotal moment of the War of the Bones... wait, is that... look out he's got a gun!

Personality

Since they cannot lie, sentient divinations have a strong yet variable relationship with the truth. Some seek to share information in furtherance of the enlightenment of society, while others show misleading visions of the technically true to manipulate and scheme.

Physical Description

When a clear reflective surface starts showing a crystal-clear image of something real, it's probably either a sentient divination or a normal scrying spell.

Sentient divinations have voices that range from clear and precise to echoey and ominous.

Relations

Sentient divinations seldom have difficulty finding an ally in a royal court, or a secluded hermitage.

Alignment

Sentient divinations are usually either Good or Evil.

Lands

Sentient divinations are almost exclusively found in inhabited places.

Religion

More than half of them worship Vecna, ironically.

Language

Common.

Names

They usually have names that are fun to say three times, like Bloody Mary, White Rabbit, or Beetlejuice.

Racial Traits

  • No Strength, No Dexterity, No Constitution: Sentient Divinations aren't really creatures and have no physical attributes. Any time they would make an attack roll they may use Charisma in place of a physical ability score.
  • None: Sentient Divinations are visions in a still pool, and thus not really creatures.
  • Dark Reflection: The Sentient Divination inhabits one reflection at a time, sensing, speaking, and acting from it. Reflective surfaces can be things like still pools, mirrors, polished swords, or even pupils, so long as the surface is at least 2 inches in radius. If the surface is broken or reduced to no light (the pool is disturbed, the mirror is left in a dark room, the sword sheathed, the eye blinks), then the Sentient Divination is expelled from the surface and returns to an aspatial void. The Sentient Divination may use its class features and other abilities from the reflection, although it has no inherent ability to move the reflected surface. It can even cast spells with somatic components, having the reflection show a diagram of the somatic components involved or a memory of it seeing someone perform those somatic components.
  • Show Only the Truth (Su): The Sentient Divination's reflection shows a clear and true vision of whatever the Sentient Divination can remember and chooses to show. Since it can see from its reflection, it can show a clear vision of what it sees in order to appear as a normal reflection, although creatures with special senses the Sentient Divination does not have could tell the difference.
  • Tell Only the Truth (Su): The Sentient Divination cannot lie.
  • Inhabit the Void: When not inhabiting a reflection, the Sentient Divination is in a formless void that all Sentient Divinations occupy. While there, it can do nothing other than purely mental actions (including resting), talking to other Sentient Divinations in the void, and using I am Here to Serve (see below).
  • I am Here to Serve (Su): If a creature speaks the Sentient Divination's name three times while looking at a valid reflective surface, the Sentient Divination hears the creature's voice, gets a momentary glimpse of what it could sense from that surface, and may choose to take a Standard action to appear in that surface.
  • Automatic Languages: Common.
