While damage reduction tends to mess with characters that have many attacks per round, few things can stand up to someone who does incredible amounts of damage with a single strike. Until now.
Resilient
Usually an extraordinary ability, resilient makes it so that the creature with the ability cannot take more than a set amount of damage (listed with the ability) from a single attack or effect. This amount of damage is virtually never more than one-fourth the creature's maximum hit points. Note that spells and abilities which deal damage from multiple attacks or effects (such as Magic Missile, Scorching Ray, and the like) count each hit of damage (such as each missile from Magic Missile or ray from Scorching Ray) as a different effect for the purposes of this ability.
Example
A creature might have Resilient (20), and thus would be unable to take more than 20 damage from a single attack or effect.
