Bane Guard Secrets[edit]

The following are Shadow Powers for the Bane Guard base class.

Level 1 At-Will Secrets[edit]

Conquering Lunge
Bane Guard Attack 1
You push your opponent out of position and seize the position for yourself.
At-Will ✦ Shadow, Weapon
Standard Action Melee weapon
Target: One creature
Attack: Charisma vs. Fortitude
Hit: 1[W] + Charisma modifier damage. The target is pushed one square and you may shift one square towards them.

Increase to 2[W] + Dexterity modifier damage at 21st level.

Special: You may shift one square before delivering this attack.


Holding Pattern
Bane Guard Attack 1
Shadows shift and give you an opening without giving away openings against you.
At-Will ✦ Shadow, Weapon
Standard Action Melee weapon
Target: One creature
Attack: Constitution vs. Reflex
Hit: 1[W] + Constitution modifier damage.

Increase to 2[W] + Dexterity modifier damage at 21st level.

Effect: No attacks against you have Combat Advantage until the end of your next turn.
Special: You have Combat Advantage for this attack.


Mole's Grasp
Bane Guard Attack 1
You stab an opponent's shadow, holding them like a painting to a nail.
At-Will ✦ Shadow, Weapon
Standard Action Melee or Ranged weapon
Target: One creature
Attack: Dexterity vs. Armor Class
Hit: 1[W] modifier necrotic damage. If the target is damaged, it becomes Immobilized until the end of your next turn.

Increase to 2[W] modifier damage at 21st level.



Undercut
Bane Guard Attack 1
You slice an opponent at your own center of mass, exerting profound leverage against large foes.
At-Will ✦ Shadow, Weapon
Standard Action Melee weapon
Target: One creature
Attack: Dexterity vs. Armor Class
Hit: 1[W] + Dexterity modifier damage. If the target is larger than you, it becomes Prone.

Increase to 2[W] + Dexterity modifier damage at 21st level and the target becomes prone regardless of size.

Hostile Diversion
Bane Guard Attack 1
You destabilize your opponent with threats and blade attacks.

Effect: Mark one opponent within range. All attacks have Combat Advantage against the target until the end of your next turn.


Life Steal
Bane Guard Attack 1
You steal some of your opponent's life.

Target: One creature you have Marked.
Attack: Charisma vs. Will
Hit: Charisma modifier Necrotic damage. You heal a number of hit points equal to your Charisma modifier.


Shadow Cut
Bane Guard Attack 1
You cut an opponent's shadow, cutting them to the soul.

Shadowy Assault
Bane Guard Attack 1
You cover yourself with shadows and attack from concealment.
Daily ✦ Shadow, Weapon
Standard Action Melee weapon
Target: One Creature.
Attack: Constitution vs. Fortitude
Hit: 4[W] + Constitution modifier damage.
Special: You become Invisible until the end of your next turn.


Stifling Grasp
Bane Guard Attack 1
You reach out with shadowy power and crush your opponent.
Daily ✦ Shadow, Weapon
Standard Action Melee weapon
Target: One Creature.
Attack: Charisma vs. Armor Class
Hit: 2[W] + Charisma modifier damage, target is Stunned (save ends).
Miss: Half damage and target is Slowed until the end of your next turn rather than stunned.

Effect: Target ally Heals hit points equal to what they would get for spending a Healing Surge plus your Charisma modifier. You spend one Healing Surge.


Shadow Bridge
Bane Guard Utility 2
You create a bridge of hardened shadow that will carry weight and hold its place without needed anchors.

Minor Action Area (Constitution Modifier) Wall within 20 squares.
Target: Squares
Effect: A floor appears in the chosen squares and lasts for five minutes or until dismissed as a minor action.

Natural Leader
Bane Guard Utility 2
You attract mooks and thugs to do your dirty work.

Target: You.
Effect: When you are in any kind of civilization ('especially' savage civilization), you can gather the services of minions who follow you around. You can have up to two minions at a time in this way, and both of them must be lower level than you.


Level 3 Encounter Secrets[edit]

Poison Shadow
Bane Guard Attack 3
You poison an opponent's shadow, causing them to slowly die.

Effect: Target suffers ongoing Poison damage equal to your Constitution modifier. Save ends.


Shadow Jump
Bane Guard Attack 3
You fall into your own shadow and immediately leap out of the shadow of an enemy, catching them off guard.

Target: One creature you have Marked.
Attack: Charisma vs. Armor Class
Hit: 1 [W] + Charisma in damage.
Special: You teleport to a square adjacent to an opponent you have marked before making this attack.


Shadow of my Shadow
Bane Guard Attack 3
You draw a number of enemies through the shadow realm, placing them in places more advantageous to yourself.

Minor Action Close Burst 5
Target: A number of creatures in range that you have Marked up to your Charisma modifier.
Effect: You may teleport each target to a space of your choice up to your Dexterity modifier in squares away from their starting square.


Sudden Strike
Bane Guard Attack 3
With wicked abandon, you make good on your threats.

Hit: 1 [W] + Dexterity in damage.


Level 5 Daily Secrets[edit]

Death Ribbon Revolution
Bane Guard Attack 5
You send tendrils of shadow in all directions, cutting everything into ribbons.

Target: All creatures in area.
Attack: Dexterity vs. Fortitude
Hit: 2[W] + Dexterity modifier Necrotic damage and the target is Immobilized until the end of your next turn.


Doom of Giants
Bane Guard Attack 5
Long ago, Bane cast the giants down from their lofty thrones. This is a feat you can replicate.

Standard Action Melee Weapon
Target: One creature.
Attack: Dexterity vs. Reflex
Hit: 5[W] + Dexterity modifier damage. You may push the target up to your Charisma modifier in squares.
Miss: 1 [W] + Dexterity modifier damage and you may push the target 1 square.
Special: Before making your attack, you may move up to your speed. You provoke no attacks of opportunity from the target.


End of Weakness
Bane Guard Attack 5
You draw upon new reserves of badassery and smash the crap out of things.
Daily ✦ Shadow, Weapon, Healing
Standard Action Melee Weapon
Target: One creature.
Attack: Dexterity vs. AC, two attacks
Hit: 2[W] + Dexterity modifier damage. You gain temporary hit points equal to your Constitution modifier times the number of hits you get.
Special: Before making your attack rolls, you may spend a Healing Surge. You heal extra hit points equal to your Constitution Modifier.


Torrent of Ill Will
Bane Guard Attack 5
You focus your displeasure into a lance of destruction and destroy someone with it.
Daily ✦ Shadow, Weapon
Standard Action Melee Weapon
Target: One creature.
Attack: Charisma vs. Will
Hit: 3[W] + Charisma modifier damage. You gain temporary hit points equal to your Constitution.
Miss: Half damage.
Special: Before making your attack, you may make a Saving Throw with a bonus equal to your Constitution Modifier for each Save Negates effect on you. You gain +2 to hit and damage for each effect you end in this manner.


Level 5 At-Will Secrets

Impalement
Bane Guard Attack 5
You put your weapon through your enemy, impeding their attacks.
At-Will ✦ Shadow, Weapon
Standard Action Melee weapon
Target: One creature
Attack: Constitution vs. Armor Class
Hit: 1[W] + Constitution modifier damage. Opponent suffers a penalty to their damage rolls equal to your Charisma modifier until the end of your next turn.

Increase to 2[W] + Constitution modifier damage at 21st level.



Kick 'em While they're Down
Bane Guard Attack 5
Taking advantage of your opponent's weakness, you cripple them even more.
At-Will ✦ Shadow, Weapon
Standard Action Melee weapon
Target: One creature against whom you have Combat Advantage
Attack: Dexterity vs. Armor Class
Hit: 1[W] + Dexterity modifier damage. Opponent is Slowed and suffers ongoing damage equal to your Constitution modifier (Save ends both).

Increase to 2[W] + Dexterity modifier damage at 21st level.



Valiant Charge
Bane Guard Attack 5
You charge into battle and strike your opponent. Whether you stay or not is up to you.
At-Will ✦ Shadow, Weapon
Standard Action Melee weapon
Target: One creature
Attack: Dexterity vs. Armor Class
Hit: 1[W] + Dexterity modifier damage.

Increase to 2[W] + Dexterity modifier damage at 21st level.

Special: You may move up to your speed before making this attack. You gain a power bonus to your AC against Attacks of Opportunity equal to your Charisma modifier until the end of your turn.

You name someone and speak to them across the world and the void.

Effect: You can speak to an ally of your choice regardless of distance or plane of existence. They can reply and you can hear their responses.

You swing your weapons out in a horrid array of bloodletting, tempered only by the fact that none of the blood is yours.

Pound for Pound
Bane Guard Attack 7
You interpose your body to give yourself an edge while exposing yourself to edges of your opponent's.

Hit: 1[W] + Constitution modifier in damage. Target gains Vulnerable: All equal to your Constitution modifier until the end of your next turn.

Effect: Target is Surprised until the end of your next turn.


Tricky Maneuvers

You maneuver an enemy into striking their ally.

Attack: Charisma vs. Reflex
Hit: Target is Dominated until the end of your next turn. On their turn they make a basic melee attack against one of their own allies if able.


Level 9 Daily Secrets[edit]

Blade Rush

You run around stabbing people.

Standard Action Melee Weapon
Target: One creature per attack.
Attack: Dexterity. vs. AC, one attack per enemy in range at any point during the movement.
Hit: 1 [W] + Dexterity.
Special: You may move up to your speed during this action, taking your attacks at any point during your movement.


Finishing Blow
Bane Guard Attack 9
Seeing a moment of weakness, you end your opponent.

Target: One creature that is bloodied.
Attack: Constitution. vs. Armor Class
Hit: Target is reduced to zero hit points.


Silent Wall
Bane Guard Attack 9
You slice a hole in reality with your weapon, causing shadow to leak out and rip someone in half. Mere physical distance is no defense.

Attack: Dexterity vs. Fortitude
Hit: 7[W] + Dexterity modifier Necrotic damage. Target is marked as with Tide of Battle.


Soul Crusher
Bane Guard Attack 9
You invoke desperate panic in your foe as you crush their soul.
Daily ✦ Shadow, Weapon, Fear, Reliable
Standard Action Melee weapon
Target: One creatue
Attack: Charisma vs. Will
Hit: 4[W] + Charisma modifier Necrotic damage. Opponent must take a Run action first thing next turn (provoking attacks of opportunity as normal). They are compelled to run away from you if they can.


Level 9 At-Will Secrets

Grasp of the Iron Gauntlet
Bane Guard Attack 9
You impale your opponent on your weapon and then crush them against your armor.
At-Will ✦ Shadow, Weapon
Standard Action Melee weapon
Target: One creature you have Marked
Attack: Dexterity vs. Armor Class
Hit: 1[W] + Dexterity modifier damage. Opponent is pulled to an adjacent square and then suffers additional damage equal to your Constitution modifier plus your Armor Enhancement bonus.

Increase to 2[W] + Dexterity modifier damage at 21st level.



Seeds of Terror
Bane Guard Attack 9
You stab the target's shadow, and chill them to the bone.

Target: One creature
Attack: Constitution vs. Armor Class
Hit: 1[W] + Constitution modifier Necrotic damage. Opponent suffers a penalty to their damage rolls equal to your Charisma modifier until the end of your next turn.

Shadow Shredder

You cut an opponent's shadow to pieces.

Standard Action Melee weapon
Target: One creature
Attack: Dexterity vs. Reflex
Hit: 1[W] + Dexterity modifier Necrotic damage. Opponent suffers additional damage equal to your Charisma modifier.

Increase to 2[W] + Dexterity modifier damage at 21st level.

Miss: Opponent suffers damage equal to your Charisma modifier.

You surround your allies in darkness, and all fade from view.

Standard Action Close Burst 10
Effect: You and up to one Ally in range per point of Dexterity Modifier becomes Invisible. This invisibility ends for each character the moment they attack, suffer fire damage, or allow 10 minutes to expire.


Rallying Shout
Bane Guard Utility 10
Everyone rallies if they know what is best for them.
Encounter ✦ Shadow, Charm, Healing
Minor Action Close Burst 10
Effect: Any allies in the area who are under the effects of one or more Save Ends effects may make a saving throw to end them immediately. They gain a bonus equal to your Constitution modifier on these rolls. You may spend a Healing Surge, and regain your Constitution modifier in extra hit points if you do.

Dark Binding
Bane Guard Utility 10
You reach into the dark ether and bind a devil to serve you.
Daily ✦ Shadow, Summoning
' Ranged 5
Effect: You summon a Devil. The Devil must be lower level than you, and it sticks around following your orders for an hour. You must expend an action point and a healing surge to make the devil appear. You may not summon an elite or solo devil, but if you summon a Minion you get 4 instead of one.


Level 13 Encounter Secrets[edit]

Driving Force
Bane Guard Attack 13
You take a moment out of your day to push your opponent.

Target: One creature.
Attack: Constitution vs. Fortitude
Hit: You may push the target up to your Dexterity Modifier in squares, where it then falls prone. If the target is larger than you, it suffers damage equal to your Constitution modifer.
Miss: You may push the target one square.


Lash of Darkness
Bane Guard Attack 13
You pull your opponent to you, setting them up for severe beatings.
Encounter ✦ Shadow, Weapon
Minor Action Ranged 10
Target: One creature.
Attack: Charisma vs. Reflex
Hit: You may pull the target as many squares as you want. The enemy is Restrained (Save Ends)
Effect: The target is marked as with Tide of Battle.


Offer Terms
Bane Guard Attack 13
You give your opponent a limited time offer of a chance to live.
Encounter ✦ Shadow, Weapon
Minor Action Ranged 10
Target: One Bloodied creature with whom you speak a language.
Attack: Intimidate Skill Check vs. Will
Hit: Your target surrenders, they are now your prisoner.


Level 15 Daily Secrets[edit]

End of Culture
Bane Guard Attack 15
You exact an amount of brutality on a subject that was heretofore believed unnecessary.

Standard Action Melee Weapon
Target: One creature you have marked.
Attack: Dexterity. vs. Armor Class
Hit: 4[W] + Dexterity and the target suffers additional damage equal to your Constitution modifier for each point your attack roll exceeded their AC.
Effect: Target is Restrained and suffers ongoing 10 Necrotic damage (save ends both).
Special: If you bring an enemy to zero hit points with damage from this power, you may refresh this power.


Motionless Rampart
Bane Guard Attack 15
You create a wall of shadow around you and an opponent, and then repeatedly beat your opponent against the unflinching wall of force.
Daily ✦ Shadow, Weapon
Standard Action Melee weapon
Target: One creature.
Attack: Dexterity. vs. AC, two attacks.
Hit: 2[W] + Dexterity and the target is Restrained (save ends).
Special: All unoccupied squares that are 2 squares away from you are impassable and block line of sight until the beginning of your next turn.


The Doom Song
Bane Guard Attack 15
You sing the hearty song of doom that dooms people.

Standard Action Close burst 5
Target: All Enemies in range.
Attack: Charisma vs. Will
Hit: Target is stunned and suffers ongoing 10 Necrotic damage (save ends both).


Level 15 At-Will Secrets

Certain Strike

You swing with the total certainty.

You cut your opponent in the soul rather than the skin.

Sweeping Strike

You swing your weapon at all comers. Damage is slight, but it is going everywhere.

Effect: You make an Intimidate check against the Will defense of a captured foe. If you succeed, you press them into your service. You only get to use the ability once on each captured foe.


Soul of the Dark Phoenix

You return from unconsciousness, as strong as ever.
Encounter ✦ Shadow, Healing
Immediate Reaction Personal
Trigger: You have been reduced to zero hit points or less.
Target: You.
Effect: You may spend a Healing Surge. You regain a number of extra hit points equal to your Constitution score (not modifier).

Dark Passage
Bane Guard Utility 16
You rend open a gateway to another dimension.
Daily ✦ Shadow
Standard Action Ranged 5
Target: One unoccupied Square
Effect: You open a dark hole in space. Anything that moves into the square is transported to another plane of existence. You choose the plane of existence when you open the passage. The hole is one way and lasts for an hour.


Level 17 Encounter Secrets[edit]

Darkflame Strike

You strike your opponent with a heaping helping of dark fire.

Attack: Constitution. vs. Armor Class
Hit: 2[W] + Constitution and the target suffers ongoing Fire damage 10 (save ends).


Frozen Vengeance
Bane Guard Attack 17
Retribution comes not a moment too late.

Minor Action Melee weapon
Target: One creature.
Effect: The target gains Vulnerable: All 10 and ongoing Cold damage 5 (save ends both).


Raise the Scabrous Banner
Bane Guard Attack 17
You cut deeply into your opponent and raise your bloodied weapon as a rallying point for your allies.
Encounter ✦ Shadow, Weapon
Minor Action Melee weapon
Target: One creature.
Attack: Charisma. vs. Armor Class
Hit: 2[W] + Charisma modifier damage and all allies within 10 squares gain a +1 bonus on to-hit rolls and Will defense until the end of your next turn.


Time Thief
Bane Guard Attack 17
You steal your opponent's time.
Encounter ✦ Shadow, Weapon
Minor Action Melee weapon
Target: One creature.
Attack: Dexterity. vs. Will
Hit: Target is Helpless until the end of their turn.


Level 19 Daily Secrets[edit]

Cloud of Bewilderment
Bane Guard Attack 19
You strike the world and a dark shadow rises from the earth like an avulsion in time.
Daily ✦ Shadow, Weapon
Standard Action Close Blast 5
Target: All creatures in area.
Attack: Charisma vs. Fortitude
Hit: 2[W] + Charisma and the target is dazed (save ends). If the target fails their save, they are Dominated for one turn, and then the effect ends anyway.
Miss: Target is dazed until the end of your next turn.


End of Meaning
Bane Guard Attack 19
You turn your opponent into a statue,barely recognizable as themselves.
Daily ✦ Shadow, Weapon
Standard Action Melee Weapon
Target: One creature you have marked.
Attack: Constitution. vs. Armor Class
Hit: 3[W] + Constitution and the target is Petrified (save ends).
Effect: All of the target's Encounter, Daily, and Recharge abilities are expended without effect. The target loses all of their Action Points and Healing Surges.


Silence Pike Surprise
Bane Guard Attack 19
You slice through reality and destroy a distant shadow. This cascades into the destruction of a person.
Daily ✦ Shadow, Weapon
Standard Action Line of Sight
Target: One creature.
Attack: Dexterity vs. Armor Class
Hit: 7[W] + Dexterity and the target is teleported to an adjacent square.
Effect: Target is Surprised until the end of next turn.


Level 19 At-Will Secrets

Black Petal Swirl
Bane Guard Attack 19
The petals of dark flowers replace your position and dark thorns pierce your enemy.
At-Will ✦ Shadow, Weapon, Poison
Standard Action Melee weapon
Target: One creature
Attack: Charisma vs. Armor Class
Hit: 2[W] + Charisma modifier damage, target suffers ongoing 5 Poison damage.
Special: You may teleport a number of squares equal to your Dexterity modifier before making this attack.


Blinding Strike
Bane Guard Attack 19
You use a strike as a diversion to put through something into your opponent's eye.
At-Will ✦ Shadow, Weapon
Standard Action Melee or Ranged weapon
Target: One creature
Attack: Dexterity vs. Armor Class
Hit: 1[W] + Dexterity modifier damage and the target is blinded until the end of your next turn.


Gravitation
Bane Guard Attack 19
You draw an opponent to you and then cut them down mid air.
