Federschwert

Exotic One-Handed Melee

Cost: 40 gp
Damage (Small): 1d8
Damage (Medium)1: 1d10
Critical: 19-20/x2
Weight2: 5 lbs
Type3: Slashing
HP4: 5
Hardness: 10

1. See Damage Increases by Size to calculate the damage for a weapon larger than Medium or smaller than Small.
2. Weight figures are for Medium weapons. A Small weapon weighs half as much, and a Large weapon weighs twice as much.
3. When two types are given, the weapon is both types if the entry specifies "and", either type (player's choice at time of attack) if the entry specifies "or", or each end of the double weapon is a different type if the entry specifies "/".
4. The hp value given is for Medium armor, weapons, and shields. Divide by 2 for each size category of the item smaller than Medium, or multiply it by 2 for each size category larger than Medium.

The federschert (which means "plume-sword") is a basically a finesse bastard sword: it has a thinner and swifter blade than its more battlefield-oriented counterpart, and usually features a very sharp blade and a wide ricasso near the hilt. It makes this weapon excellent for fencing and duels. Many models of ederschwert are used for training and present a rounded point, but when forged for real fight purposes The ederschwert can be very sharp, agile and lethal.

The federschwert is pretty maneuverable and fairly flexible. Weapon Finesse feat can be applied to this weapon, even though this sword is not a light weapon. Even if a f is wielded in two hands, you can't apply 1½ times your Strength bonus to damage.

As a bastard sword, A character can use a two-handed as a martial weapon. It's not necessary to have a minimum of strenght of 13 to wield a federschwert in one hand without penalty, since it's not very heavy, but The Exotic Weapon Proficiency feat is required because of the federschwert's lenght.

If a Character without the Exotic Weapon Proficiency feat wields a federschwert in one hand, the charachter gets only a -2 penalty to attack rolls, thanks to the relative light weight of the federschwert (the same reduction from a -4 to a -2 penalty to attack rolls and the lack of a minimum of 13 strenght for a one-handed wielding are common characteristics of all the " light hand-and-a-half weapons", as explained in the rate/discussion of the federschwert).
