1. See Damage Increases by Size to calculate the damage for a weapon larger than Medium or smaller than Small.
2. Weight figures are for Medium weapons. A Small weapon weighs half as much, and a Large weapon weighs twice as much.
3. When two types are given, the weapon is both types if the entry specifies "and", either type (player's choice at time of attack) if the entry specifies "or", or each end of the double weapon is a different type if the entry specifies "/".
4. The hp value given is for Medium armor, weapons, and shields. Divide by 2 for each size category of the item smaller than Medium, or multiply it by 2 for each size category larger than Medium.
The Foil is an very light and swift weapon: its blade has a chevron or V-shaped cross-section, normally with a fuller running down the its back edges. The Foil, being the sporting and training version of the Rapier, usually features a soft tip (typically shaped like a flower) covering the point, in order to prevent the weapon to inflict lethal damages; however, if the cover is removed, the foil can be also a lethal weapon. Higher society and more genteel cultures eventually began to impose laws upon dueling, limiting combat to the draw of first blood, not to the death. Suitably, the Foil is intended for quick, shallow nicks and scratches, to bring the duel to a swift victory. The deep fuller, however, still lends the blade strength enough to kill if survival or murder is the aim.
You can use the Weapon Finesse feat to apply your Dexterity modifier instead of your Strength modifier to attack rolls with an Foil sized for you.
A Foil counts as a Rapier for the purpose of feats such as Greater Weapon Focus, Greater Weapon Specialization, Improved Critical, Weapon Focus, Weapon Specialization and class features.
