Note[edit]
This monster is balanced to fit in a high level of balance game. I have taken the liberty of not using the standard D&D rules for determining various statistics for this monster. As a result, it may seem a bit stronger (or weaker) than some SRD monsters of the same CR and that is fine. I think it will pose an appropriate challenge for characters of its CR.

Energy Affinity (Ex) | A legendary badger has an energy affinity chosen from the following types: acid, cold, electricity, fire, magic, negative energy, or positive energy. Its affinity grants it a bonus 1d6 damage of that energy type to all its natural weapons and resist 10 to that energy type. |
Claw Flurry (Ex) | The legendary badger can make its claw attacks (2 when at full health, more when at lower health, see Frenzy) as a standard action with a -2 penalty to the attacks. |
Frenzy (Ex) | For every 10 hp the legendary badger is missing, it gains an additional claw attack. |
Call of the Wild (Su) | Legendary badgers almost always travel with a pack. The most common pack size is 4 Dire Badgers and 8 Badgers, not including children and other non-combatants, but other pack sizes do exist. If a legendary badger is encountered without his pack, he may call any number of them to his aid as a full-round action. This results in the combatants being teleported into any unoccupied squares of his choice within 120ft. These creatures can begin acting at the end of the legendary badger's next turn and are flat-footed until then. These creatures are not summons, and increase the EL appropriately. |
Shapechanger (Su) | Some legendary badgers are capable of shapechanging into a fixed humanoid form. These creatures gain the shapechanger subtype and can change as a full-round action between their humanoid form, which is at most large-sized and their badger form. While in the humanoid form, they can carry equipment, which melds into their form when they become a badger. In their humanoid form, they have a number of class levels equal to their CR - 1. Any statuses and damage is preserved between its forms. Note: This is an Irish myth. |
Legendary badgers are the leaders of large groups of other badgers, much like any other legendary animal. They are extremely territorial and will claim large regions as their personal hunting ground.
The dens of a legendary badger (called setts) are passed down between generations of badger families and are hugely extensive. They typically have hundreds of chambers and resemble underground dwellings constructed by civilized species.
Legendary badgers are very territorial about creatures intending to live in its territory. Otherwise, they are generally more peaceful than most legendary animals, especially in the case of shapechangers, which actually understand humanoid culture. That is, if a group is passing through, they are unlikely to attack, but if some settlers come building a road or a village nearby, they are likely to meet with hostility.
They are reluctant to call their entire pack to a fight, but will do so if they feel the threat will be to the entire territory.
Although it is as intelligent as a human, a legendary badger cannot speak any languages unless it is a shapechanger. Shapechangers are able to speak the languages of the race of their humanoid form when in their humanoid form.
Strategies and Tactics[edit]
Legendary badgers fight like any other badger: to the death (generally). They attack with ferocity and rage and will try to tear their enemies to pieces.
Treasure[edit]
The claws of a legendary badger can be fashioned into Fury Claws. The claws are valued at 1,200 gp on the open market.
