Yuan-Ti Pureblood[edit]

The yuan-ti were cultists descended from humans whose bloodlines have been mingled with those of serpents. The purebloods are the lowest of the yuan-ti caste system and often disguise themselves as humans and work among them as spies for their abomination masters.

Personality[edit]

They are legendary for being maleficent and merciless, yet incredibly sly. They are calculating and suave enough to form alliances with other evil creatures when necessary, but they always put their own interests first.

Physical Description[edit]

This being looks much like a slim-hipped, lithe human with sharp features and unblinking eyes. A closer look, however, reveals a forked tongue, pointed teeth, and scaly patches on the neck and limbs.

Yuan-ti purebloods appear human at first glance, with only very subtle snakelike features. A pureblood is about the same height and weight as a human. All yuan-ti possess some snakelike features, and many have snake body parts.

Relations[edit]

Because their population is so small, the yuan-ti are aware they are vulnerable in open warfare. Instead, their current plans assume they will never rule outwardly in human society, so they gain influence by controlling enemy rulers — and those close to them — through blackmail, drugs, magic, and the subterfuge of disguised purebloods.

Alignment[edit]

Usually chaotic evil

Lands[edit]

Warm forests

Religion[edit]

The chief deity of the yuan-ti is Merrshaulk, who prompted and directed the formation of the line.

Language[edit]

Yuan-ti, Common, Abyssal, Draconic

Names[edit]

Yuan-ti names have meanings that have been passed down through the generations, although spellings and inflections have changed over time.

Some yuan-ti add more sibilants to their birth names to create an exaggerated hissing sound, based on one’s personal preference and whether an individual’s anatomy can more easily pronounce the name in this altered form. An adopted name of this sort is recognized as a variant of the birth name, rather than a unique name unto itself. A yuan-ti might refer to itself by its birth name, by its adopted name, or (especially among purebloods) by a name it borrows from the local populace.
