Many Shamans seek out an Eidolon for one specific purpose - To combat a curse that has been placed on themselves or a loved one. These Shamans, known as Curse Eaters, learn to devour curses to heal themselves, or to power hexes of their own.

Shamans the choose the Bond of the Curse Eater most often have Biped, Insectoid or Serpentine Eidolons, typically of the Celestial, Undead or Fiend type.

Bond Spells[edit]

Beginning at 2nd level when you select this Bond, you learn the Jinx cantrip, and you learn additional spells of 1st level and higher when you reach certain levels of this class, as shown on the Curse Eater Spells table below. Each of these spells counts as a Shaman spell for you, but doesn't count against the number of Shaman spells you know.

You cannot use Bond Spells to Barter for a Retrieved spell, nor can you replace them upon gaining a Shaman level. Likewise, your Bond Spells are not affected by Restricted Casting, as they result from your connection directly to your Eidolon, rather than from your connection to the Other Side.

Table: Curse Eater Spells

Shaman Level Spells Gained
1st Jinx, Bane
3rd Fortune's Favor
5th Bestow Curse
7th Compulsion
9th Enervation

Devour Curse[edit]

Beginning at 2nd level when you select this Bond, you and your Eidolon both gain advantage on saving throws against any effect that inflicts the Charmed or Frightened condition, and on saving throws against any effect that could be removed by the Remove Curse spell.

When you or your Eidolon succeeds a saving throw against one of the above effects, you may absorb the curse's energy as a Reaction. When you do so, the curse's energy allows you to do one of the following things, as part of that same Reaction:

  • Roll a number of d4s equal to the Proficiency Bonus of the triggering effect's source. You and/or your Eidolon regains that many hit points, divided up among you as you choose.
  • Immediately cast one of your Bond Spells without components and without expending a spell slot. This is not affected by Restricted Casting.

Relentless Devourer[edit]

Beginning at 6th level, as long as your Eidolon is conscious, not incapacitated, and within 30ft of you, you and your Eidolon are immune to any effect that would would might you Frightened or Charmed, as well as any effect that can be removed by the Remove Curse spell. When you or your Eidolon are subjected to one of these effects, you can immediately use Devour Curse as if you succeeded your saving throw against the effect.

Additionally, you no longer suffer ill effects from any cursed magic item you are attuned to.

Final Curse[edit]

Beginning at 14th level, as an action, you may cast Bestow Curse on a target you can see within 100ft of you or your Eidolon, as if cast from a 7th-level spell slot. The target has disadvantage on the initial saving throw against this Final Curse, casting the spell in this way does not require verbal or somatic components, and this ability is not affected by Restricted Casting. If the target fails its saving throw against your Final Curse, your hit points cannot be reduced to less than 1.

Additionally, when an effect would reduce you to 0hp (But not kill you outright), you can immediately expend the use of this feature to inflict your Final Curse upon the creature that reduced you to 0hp, regardless of range. If the target fails its saving throw, you remain at 1hp.

Once you use this feature, you must finish 1d6 Long Rests before you can use it again.

Hex Master[edit]

Beginning at 18th level, you may cast Remove Curse and Bestow Curse at their lowest levels at will, without expending a spell slot. You ignore components when casting these spells.

Additionally, your Final Curse becomes more potent. When you use your Final Curse, it is cast as if from a 9th-level spell slot, and you regain the ability to use your Final Curse at the end of a Long Rest.
