Changes
minor changes due to changes in Exotic Weapons
Their length classifies them as a polearm for the Polearm Master feat's Opportunity Attack Reach ability (see Player's Handbook (5e) p.168).
The longspear is an Exotic Weapon1. If you are not proficient with this (or any exotic) weapon, you use it at Disadvantage as well as not adding your Proficiency Bonus.
If you are both a Monk and are proficient with this weapon, it is treated as a Monk Weapon for you.
