Talk:Disciple of the Undying Cold (3.5e Prestige Class)
From Dungeons and Dragons Wiki
Could this be 5 or 7 levels?[edit]
Early levels of this PrC are pretty solid for cold-based necromancers like uttercold blasters. It does drag on for a while though, getting your last good ability there at level 5. Then the last 5 levels are basically what you spend becoming a Frostlich. Looking at the template, I'm not sure it's really out of line for a level 12 or 14 character to actually be one. The sample Monster Manual lich is level 11, which would put them at CR 13. You could require burning a lot of gold or whatnot in the phylactery creation here to try to make up for some CR. Prior art: Walker in the Wastes lets you hit Dry Lich (which has CR+3!) at level 13. Surgo (talk) 04:29, 18 November 2021 (UTC)
- A different question, probably relevant to this one. The phylactery's description says that: "The character must be able to cast spells and have a caster level of 11th or higher", and one of the requirements of the class states that one must have begun the phylactery's construction, meaning that this class cannot be entered before the 11th level of a full caster. --The bluez in the dungeon (talk) 15:48, 18 November 2021 (UTC)
- Well, you only have to begin the construction at level 5 of the class according to the prereqs which isn't a problem here, but I can see you *beginning* construction of it before you have the valid spells to complete the construction. I don't think that's an issue. Surgo (talk) 15:32, 18 November 2021 (UTC)
- Oh, it meant that?! I didn't catch it. --The bluez in the dungeon (talk) 15:48, 18 November 2021 (UTC)
