Elite Fighter[edit]
Elite Class: An elite version of a base class is meant to be used by player characters or powerful NPCs in a game where third party material such as Path of War or Psionic is used. These classes are stronger than their base variants, to narrow down the power gap between player characters. The elite variant attempts not to change any core mechanics of the class. It is intended that player (or powerful NPCs) pick the elite version of a class as their main class, while the base version is reserved for NPCs and for players who are multiclassing.
The elite fighter is an adventuring veteran, with abilities which aid them in days to days survival in a dungeon. An elite fighter has an increase in skill points, has access to grit (and a unique list of deeds) and effectively has the Martial Master archetype for free.
Changes[edit]
- Saving Throws: An elite fighter has a good Reflex save progression.
- Skills: An elite fighter has 4 + her Intelligence in skill points per level, she adds Perception to her list of class skills.
- New Class Features: Grit & Deeds, Proper Form, Pack Mule, Martial Flexibility
New Class Features[edit]
Grit (Ex): An elite fighter possesses a pool of grit much like a GunslingerPathfinder. At the start of each day, an elite fighter gains a number of grit points equal to her Wisdom modifier (minimum 1). Her grit goes up or down throughout the day, but usually cannot go higher than her Wisdom modifier (minimum 1), though some feats and magic items may affect this maximum. An elite fighter spends grit to accomplish deeds (see below), and regains grit in the following ways.
Killing Blow: When the elite fighter reduces a creature to 0 or fewer hit points with a weapon attack while in the heat of combat, she regains 1 grit point. Destroying an unattended object, reducing a helpless or unaware creature to 0 or fewer hit points, or reducing a creature that has fewer Hit Dice than half the fighter’s character level to 0 or fewer hit points does not restore any grit.
Deeds: This ability functions just like the GunslingerPathfinder class feature. If one of her deeds has a save the DC is 10 + 1/2 Class level + her Wisdom modifier. The fighter’s deeds are drawn from a unique list (see Fighter’s Deeds below).
Proper Form (Ex): An elite fighter counts her Strength, Dexterity and Intelligence as a minimum of 13 for the purpose of meeting prerequisites.
Pack Mule (Ex): A 2nd level adds a +4 bonus to her Strength score for the purpose of determining her carrying capacity.
Martial Flexibility (Ex): At 5th level, the elite fighter can use a move action to gain the benefit of a combat feat she doesn’t possess. This effect lasts for 1 minute. The elite fighter must otherwise meet all the feat’s prerequisites. She can use this ability a number of times per day equal to 3 + 1/2 her fighter level.
The elite fighter can use this ability again before the duration expires in order to replace the previous combat feat with another choice. If a combat feat has a daily use limitation (such as Stunning Fist), any uses of that combat feat while using this ability count toward that feat’s daily limit. At later levels, when she gains multiple feats through this ability, the elite fighter can use those feats to meet the prerequisites of other feats she gains with this ability. Doing so means she cannot replace a feat currently fulfilling another’s prerequisite without also replacing those feats that require it. Each individual feat selected counts toward her daily uses of this ability.
At 9th level, an elite fighter can use this ability to gain the benefit of two combat feats at the same time. she can select one feat as a swift action or two feats as a move action. At 14th level, an elite fighter can use this ability to gain the benefit of three combat feats at the same time. She can select one feat as a free action, two feats as a swift action, or three feats as a move action. At 17th level, an elite fighter can use this ability to gain the benefit of one combat feat as an immediate action or three combat feats as a swift action. At 20th level, an elite fighter can use this ability to gain the benefit of any number of combat feats as a swift action.
Fighter's Deeds[edit]
Camp Utility (Ex): As long as an elite fighter has 1 or more point of grit remaining in her pool, she gains the following benefits:
- Field Repair: The ace trooper can repair a single damage weapon or armor to full hit points whenever she rests for at least 8 hours. This removes the broken condition, if applicable.
- Improved Camp Set Up: The ace trooper can set up tents, campfires and such twice as fast as other characters. The DC of any alarm or traps she set up increases by 2.
- Utilitarian Weapon: an ace trooper can treat any metal light or one-handed melee weapon as a crowbar, flint and steel, marlinspike or skillet.
Fighter’s Mark (Ex): As a swift action, an elite fighter can spend 1 grit to mark an opponent. As long as that opponent is aware of the elite fighter, she takes a –2 penalty on attack rolls against targets other than the elite fighter. Furthermore, whenever the marked target makes an attack against an opponent other than the elite fighter, it provokes an attack of opportunity from the elite fighter. The target remains marked until the encounter ends, or the elite fighter is reduced to 0 hit point or lower. The penalties bestowed by a fighter’s mark increases by 1 at 5th level and each 5 levels thereafter.
Veteran’s Resolve (Ex): An elite fighter may expend a 1 grit as an immediate action to reroll a failed Will saving throw. If her Bravery class feature would apply to that Will save, its bonus is doubled for the reroll.
Battlefield Readiness (Ex): A 3rd level elite fighter must be battle ready at about any time. While she has 1 or more points of grit in her pool, she gains a +2 bonus on initiative and may don her armor without aid (if it requires it).
Through Any Terrains (Ex): While a 3rd level elite fighter has 1 or more points of grit in her pool, she gains the ability to charge through difficult terrain. As part of a movement she may expend 1 grit, if she does she can move at her speed even if she would normally be slowed down by difficult terrain or a slowing magical effect (such as fog cloud).
Foil Counter (Ex): A 7th level whenever a creature declares an action while the elite fighter is attacking (usually an immediate action), she may spend 1 point of grit to have her attack resolved before it does.
Reactive Delay (Ex): A 7th level elite fighter is able to lag her actions without conscience. As long as she has 1 or more grit remaining in her pool, she may delay her action in one round without compromising her Initiative in the next round.
Strike with no Thoughts (Ex): A 11th level elite fighter may expend 1 grit as an immediate action, to immediately take an attack of opportunity against any foe within her reach. She may even do so with a ranged weapon, and does not provoke for doing so.
