Welcome![edit]

Welcome to the wiki Mr. L.T.Bonkers. Glad you found something here that you liked enough to make a variant of :-). There's some discussion about whether the changes you're making are enough to warrant a whole new class page, as opposed to an alternate class feature package, and I wanted to make sure that you were aware of it.

Also, I moved the page to Hivemaster, Variant (3.5e Class). The first set of parenthesis causes problems with some of the templates and navigation settings we use. - Tarkisflux Talk 06:42, 17 February 2013 (UTC)

I am new to the wiki, as you know, and am not entirely sure what I'm doing. I wanted to change a few things about the class, mostly in the form of lowering the power of the class. I wasn't sure that a variant was the best way to do it, but I didn't know there were really other options, including the ACF option (which I though was mostly for an alternate ability of roughly equal power [correct me if I'm wrong]). I'm still making changes to the variant (as it exists now). I had also planned to change the Hivemaster feats accordingly. I wasn't sure exactly how to go about doing that other than making duplicates of the ones that I feel need changes to fit better with the changed class. If you have more input, I'd love to hear it. Thanks for the help so far. --Mr. Lieutenant Time Bonkers (talk) 05:28, 17 February 2013 (EST)
(I'm moving this back here so it's all in one place. It's not a problem to put it on my talk, it's just easier to keep a conversation on the same page as it starts ;-)
You're right that an ACF is normally for work at the same balance, but it's also useful in a power-down if you're just moving abilities around and not doing any (or at least not much) rewriting of them. Since you're going to be working with the feats too, keeping the page might make sense.
On feats, you have a couple of options. You could do entirely new feats at a lower balance level and just add them to the Hivemaster pool. Then specify that your variant only has those options, and call it done. That's simple enough that you might be fine with an ACF instead of a full class page. If you want to redo all of the feats though, you might want to import the feats into the page and just make them class options. Then the full class page would have all of your class and feat edits in one place, and we wouldn't have a lot of variant feats. Which is better depends on how you want to work with the existing ones. - Tarkisflux Talk 23:20, 17 February 2013 (UTC)
