Originally fashioned by blacksmiths at the behest of their lords to imitate the look of pleated tunics that the aristocracy of the time found so fashionable, the ''fluted armor'' could be considered a flight of fancy that stuck around, because as it turned out fluted armor is really, really good at averting heavy blows. The grooves in parallel fluting make the armor sublimely tough and resistant against deformation, though attacks with a powerful piercing quality do have the unfortunate habit of getting 'caught' by the fluting. The fluted plate is always [[SRD:Masterwork|masterwork]]; price and benefits are subsumed in the above statistics.

The fluted plate grants the following benefits when worn, on top of its general protective capabilities:

*You gain [[SRD:Damage Reduction|DR]] 3/[[SRD:Piercing Weapon|piercing]]. Against ranged [[SRD:Piercing Weapon|piercing]] attacks, the AC bonus of the armor counts as 2 less.
