If the character has some help, cut this time in half. A single character doing nothing else can help one or two adjacent characters. Two characters can't help each other don armor at the same time. The wearer must have help to don this armor. Without help, it can be donned only hastily.

Originally fashioned by blacksmiths at the behest of their lords to imitate the look of pleated tunics that the aristocracy of the time found so fashionable, the fluted armor could be considered a flight of fancy that stuck around, because as it turned out fluted armor is really, really good at averting heavy blows. The grooves in parallel fluting make the armor sublimely tough and resistant against deformation, though attacks with a powerful piercing quality do have the unfortunate habit of getting 'caught' by the fluting. The fluted plate is always masterwork; price and benefits are subsumed in the above statistics.

The fluted plate grants the following benefits when worn, on top of its general protective capabilities:

• You gain DR 3/piercing. Against ranged piercing attacks, the AC bonus of the armor counts as 2 less.
• The fluted plate is hard to sunder: it takes half damage from any sunder attempts.
