If taken in hand, the reins lash easily to beasts of burden, sizing as necessary, and automatically repairing themselves if broken. They can also be used in combat as [[SRD:Masterwork Weapons|masterwork]] [[SRD:Whip|whips]] that deal nonlethal electricity damage (and have no difficulty dealing damage to creatures with natural armor or creatures wearing metal armor). The reins can be enhanced as weapons.

The reins can be used to bind creatures as [[SRD:Breaking and Entering|masterwork manacles]] with a successful [[SRD:Survival Skill|Survival]] check (DC 15). For each attempt a creature struggles against these bindings, they are dealt 1d6 nonlethal electricity damage.
