The stasis coffin is a tool typically used in medical emergancies to freeze a person in critical condition in time, long enough to obtain the proper medical treatment.  It is also sometimes used on long journies over the ocean or more exotic realms, trips which may take years or even centuries to complete.  When a willing creature is placed inside it and the door is sealed, the creature is encased in what appears to be ice (but is actually much closer in substance to [[SRD:Quintessence|quintessence]]).  In their stasis they age very slowly.  For every 10 years that pass on the outside, only 1 day passes on the inside.  The creature inside is helpless and unconcious, but not immune to damage, so the coffin must be protected from harm.  Otherwise, no amount of heat will melt the "ice" surrounding them, and it always remains at a frosty 32 degrees F.

The stasis is removed either when the door is opened, or on a single simple contingency such as "arrived in such and such a location" or "100 years have passed".  The contingency can be based on time, location, or based on any visual features of a creature or object in 60 ft (and not non-visible things such as HD or alignment).  The contingency can be tricked by illusions and disguises, and make any counter-rolls or saving throws with a modifier equal to its caster level (+5).  When a creature is released from stasis they are dazed for 1 round and nauseated for 1 minute afterward until they can regain their bearings.  If a creature is released violently (such as the coffin being destroyed) this still applies, and they take half the damage of the effect which destroyed the coffin.

A more expensive version is possible which removes the need to eat entirely, though creatures continue to age slowly at 1 day per 10 years.  This version is an additional +1500 gp.  Stasis coffins are made of wood re-enforced with strange metals and magic runes, giving it hardness 8 and 30 hp.
