Nocturne Scholar

A nocturne scholar is an occultist who studies the dangerous secrets of necromancy through the lens of one of the night’s most dangerous denizens. A nocturne scholar uses special necromantic implements, specifically the preserved or mummified body of slain vampires. Some nocturne scholars acquire these parts by slaying vampires, often as part of their duties as vampire hunters. All the while, others seek to become more like the subject of their research.

Many nocturne scholar are full time students of necromancy, and also take the necroccultist archetype.

Class: Occultist

Level: 1st-2nd

Replaces: Implements (Altered), 1st Focus Power, Magic Item Skill

Benefit: A nocturne scholar gain access the following class features:

Vampiric Focus (Su): A nocturne scholar does not invest her mental focus in a typical necromancy implement, instead investing her power into preserved body parts of vampires. The body part may be of a powerful vampire lord, or multiple vampires the occultist has personally slain. In any case, she must choose necromancy as one of her implements at 1st level.

Instead of the original focus power of a necromancy implement, each time a nocturne scholar selects a necromancy implement she selects a single vampire focus. As long as at least 1 point of mental focus has been invested in the implement, she may use the vampire focus as a vampire hunter of her class level. A nocturne scholar may use her vampire foci for 1 minute per class level, which does not need to be consecutive. Unlike a vampire hunter, all her foci draw from the same pool of implements.

This ability alters implements, replaces the focus power gained at 1st level. This archetype is compatible with an archetype with the necromantic bond class ability, even if they both alter implements.

Vampire Lore: A 2nd level nocturne scholar gains the Vampire Scholar feat as a bonus feat. The nocturne scholar may use her Intelligence instead of her Wisdom to determine the effects of technique feats.

This ability replaces magic item skills.
