The Radical Crest is the invention of Vince 'El Dude' Minkowski, a legendary sea explorer and veteran combat cleric. This crest-shaped shield breaks the waves just as smoothly as it does any hard offensive, making it easily the most radical of shields ever.
The Radical Crest functions as a +3 dilatantoplastic heavy shield and grants a total shield bonus to AC of +5 and damage reduction 4/piercing.
The Radical Crest has the magical property to let liquids easily glide off of its surface, granting cover against all attacks and effects involving any sort of liquid substance provided the wielder has the appropriate Shield Proficiency. The wielder enjoys the shield bonus as a bonus to Reflex saves against area effects involving water or any sort of harmful liquid, gaining effective evasion against such effects. If the wielder already has evasion, it becomes improved evasion against these types of effects instead.
An added effect of all this is that when the shield is placed on the water, it can be used as a surfboard and moreover adheres strongly to the surface of any salt water, granting a movement speed of 60 feet while surfing and a +10 enhancement bonus to Balance checks in order to maintain balance while surfing. It is possible to hustle and run while using a Radical Crest's surf speed.
The Radical Crest generates a constant control weather effect within a radius of 5 miles that promotes clear skies and creates favourable offshore wind. When inland, this radius shrinks to 1 mile, but following the wind direction created by the Radical Crest allows the wielder to find his way to the nearest body of salt water. The weather controlling effect is fairly weak, to the point that extreme weather phenomena like heavy storms and hurricanes can disrupt it, as can stronger magical effects that control the weather.
