These rare rods are actually made for battle, being both a usable weapon and capable of projecting a directed force field. Firstly a shield rod acts as a +1 Heavy Mace. As a move action, the wielder of the shield rod can project a shield of force around themselves, acting as a +1 heavy shield. This bonus applies against incorporeal touch attacks. While the shield is deployed the wielder cannot use the shield rod as a weapon, and while deployed gain all benefits that would be given to a shield (such as feats and class feature). The wielder may retract the force shield as a free action.
A shield rod can be enhanced further as weapon and a shield separately, requiring only the Craft Magic Arms and Armor feat to do so.
Prerequisites: Craft Magic Arms and Armor, Craft, shield.
Cost to Create: 2,250 GP, 180 EXP, 4 days.
