Originally discovered as part of a small trove, perhaps as a unique curiosity, these bucklers have been replicated and are gaining popularity among adventurers for their tactical use.
This ceramic buckler looks fairly plain, being a matte dark brown, though closer inspection reveals fine etched lines on the front, which are more prominent on the back.
While normally a +1 magical ceramic buckler, it can be deployed as a move action by slamming the bottom surface to the ground, causing the shield to enlarge into a standing wall of cover, releasing itself from the wielder's arm with the same action. This wall of cover is 5 feet by 5 feet and stands vertically on its own. A DC 20 Strength check or higher will dislodge the wall and cause it to return to shield form, though it can also be gathered back up from the same side it was deployed from as another move action. Gathering it back up or otherwise causing it to be dislodged from its position causes it to return to buckler form.
The shield has Hardness 17 and 25 HP.
Prerequisites: Craft Magic Arms and Armor, Shield.
Cost to Create: 1,500 gp plus 15 gp for the buckler component, 120 EXP, 3 days.
