''This figurine is a curled up miniature king cobra made of red [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cinnabar cinnabar].  It's typically worn as a bracelet, anklet, or looped on a strong like an amulet.  When activated the red shell cracks and melts away to reveal a serpent of liquid silver, burning red eyes, and fantastic swiftness.''

When animated, a mercurial serpent becomes a construct form of a [[SRD:Medium Viper|medium viper]], with 20 hp, [[Int]] 8 (skill points are unchanged), DR 5/magic, and a +20 increase on all its movement speeds.  It can understand Common but not speak, and comes in at 7 feet long and 120 lbs.  It otherwise acts as a medium viper and will follow its possessors owners.  Its poison attack no longer is present, but it can swallow contact, injury, or inhaled poisons and later deploy them by bite or breathing out a 10 foot cube of gas (for inhaled poisons).  Using this expends the poison.  The mercurial serpent can hold up to three poisons in its body at one time.

It can maintain its nonfigurine status for only 1 hour once per day, but the duration need not be continuous (minimum 1 minute intervals).
