This ''arrow deflection tower shield +1'' has the power to deflect area of effect bursts, lines, cones, and emanations away in a wide wake, protecting not only the user but everyone behind the user as well.  Up to 3/day as an immediate action, the wielder of the wake barrier can gain total cover against one area of effect such as a ''[[SRD:Mage's Disjunction|mage's disjunction]]'' or dragon's breath.  He is protected from its effects, and so is anyone in a 60 ft. cone extending behind him away from the point of origin of the effect.  The danger, be it flames or supernatural mind waves, ripples harmlessly to the left and right of the shield.

If the wielder uses the shield as total cover as normal (giving up his attacks to do so) the shield still offers its cone of protection effect, though to a lesser degree.  The cone extends out only to 30 ft.
