2. Weight figures are for Medium weapons. A Small weapon weighs half as much, and a Large weapon weighs twice as much.
3. When two types are given, the weapon is both types if the entry specifies "and", either type (player's choice at time of attack) if the entry specifies "or", or each end of the double weapon is a different type if the entry specifies "/".
4. The hp value given is for Medium armor, weapons, and shields. Divide by 2 for each size category of the item smaller than Medium, or multiply it by 2 for each size category larger than Medium.
A battle banner is similar to a long quarterstaff with a large banner or flag attached to it, as well as an heavy head, adding additional striking power. It can be used as a martial weapon with no penalty. A battle banner has reach, and unlike other weapons with reach, it can be used to strike adjacent targets.
A battle banner can be used as a double weapon, striking with both the heavy head and the shaft (hence the damage difference). When used as a double weapon, the battle banner loses it reach. You may also wield a battle banner in one hand, in which case it cannot be used a double weapon.
A battle banner is a trip weapon, with all associated bonuses and penalties.
Finally a creature with the appropriate exotic weapon proficiency can make use of the following Weapon Arts:
- Entangling Strike: As a standard action you may make a single melee attack with Improved Grab, if you succeed on a grapple you bring forth the creature within you square and it become Entangled for as long as you maintain the grapple. If the creature break out of the grapple or succeed on it initial grapple check it is allowed a to attempt to disarm your from your battle banner as a free action that do not provoke an attack of opportunity.
- Inspirational Boost: As a swift action, the wielder of a battle banner can replicate the effect of Inspire Courage as a Bard of their level; however, the bonus cannot be maintained, and only lasts for 1 round. If you were already maintaining Inspire Courage, you instead increase the bonuses it grants by 1 for 1 round.
- Fearless Leader: As a swift action, you can reassure yourself as bearer of the banner, becoming immune to [Fear]-effects for 1 round.
- Pole Jumper: If used as part of a jump, you gain a +10 bonus on your jump checks and your height is not limited by your size.
- Shielded Stance: You can position the banner in a way that conceals your movement, allowing you to take total defense as a standard action rather than a full-round action. Additionally, you receive 20% concealment and cannot be flanked when using total defense or when fighting defensively with a battle banner.
A Battle Banner counts as a monk special weapon, and it is also considered a White Raven discipline weapon.
