1. See Damage Increases by Size to calculate the damage for a weapon larger than Medium or smaller than Small.
2. Weight figures are for Medium weapons. A Small weapon weighs half as much, and a Large weapon weighs twice as much.
3. When two types are given, the weapon is both types if the entry specifies "and", either type (player's choice at time of attack) if the entry specifies "or", or each end of the double weapon is a different type if the entry specifies "/".
4. The hp value given is for Medium armor, weapons, and shields. Divide by 2 for each size category of the item smaller than Medium, or multiply it by 2 for each size category larger than Medium.
"Wwww-TSCH!"
A chain whip, much like a regular whip, requires special training to use.
The weapon is a wooden handle, wrapped with leather and further reinforced with bracing and a central metal rod to which the chain is attached. Some designs simply have a metal handle. The handle often has embellishments in style and design, such as a "hilt" to hold the chain when wound up. The ten foot length of chain starts with larger links at the handle that slowly taper down in size toward the tip, where a small head resides, typically resembling that of a miniature morning star or flail head, though designs resembling a hammer, metal ball or fist are not unheard of. Because of the many nooks and spaces of the chain, the weapon take particularly well to weapon oils and ointments.
A proficient wielder can attack adjacent and out to 10 feet of reach with the chain whip but they do not threaten adjacent foes outside of their turn. A non-proficient wielder cannot attack, nor do they threaten, adjacent foes.
A proficient wielder can apply an oil to his chain whip as a move action without provoking an attack of opportunity.
