Pyromancy Flame[edit]

Pyromancy Flame
Price: Varies
Body Slot: Held
Caster Level: Varies
Aura: Varied evocation
Activation: --
Weight: 0 lb.

Fire made flesh, this weightless, primal flame is a highly coveted source of power for any fire-based spellcaster.

A pyromancy flame boosts the power and effectiveness of all fire-based spells that are cast with it as a focus. The flame grants its user bonuses to attack rolls, damage, save DC and spell penetration of any spell with the Fire descriptor as per the below table.

Table: Pyromancy Flame1
Enhancement Bonus Bonus Damage2 Save DC Penetration Bonus against SR3 Maximum Spell Level4
+1 +1d6 +1 +0 3rd
+2 +2d6 +1 +1 5th
+3 +3d6 +2 +1 7th
+4 +4d6 +2 +2 8th
+5 +5d6 +3 +2 9th
  1. Spells with the Fire descriptor only.
  2. Does not multiply on a critical hit.
  3. Penetration also lowers the target's spell dampening (if any) by the value in this column.
  4. Only spells up to this level are strengthened by the pyromancy flame.

The pyromancy flame counts as a catalyst for fire-based spells. The user of the pyromancy flame is immune to any fire spell cast with that particular flame as the focus, even if the user includes himself in the area his spell targets. He is, however, not immune to any indirect consequences of his spells, such as the suffocation hazard caused by his flames starving the area of oxygen, nor does the flame grant him immunity to fire from any other source. When ignited, the pyromancy flame sits in the wielder's hand like a contained, flickering orb, and continually casts light as per the light spell.

Once the flame is 'donned', it is subsumed within the user's chosen hand and becomes a part of him, to be ignited or turned off at will as a free action. The pyromancy flame becomes a conduit for fire-based spells, and the user suffers no arcane spell failure chance when casting arcane spells with the Fire descriptor using the pyromancy flame as a focus.

Combat Options[edit]

Fire spells cast with the pyromancy flame as a focus are strengthened as per the above table, up to the flame's maximum spell level. When fully attuned to a pyromancy flame, its user also gains access to the following abilities.

Fire Orb (Su): The user shoots a ball of concentrated flame at its target as an attack action. The fire orb is a ranged attack with a range of 30 feet that deals damage equal to the value in the Bonus Damage column, plus the higher of the user's Intelligence or Charisma scores. The user may use his Intelligence or Charisma bonus instead of his Dexterity bonus for the ranged attack roll as well if doing so is beneficial. The user may use his fire orbs in a full attack.

Prerequisites: Craft Wondrous Item, a sufficiently potent fiery essence, and a caster level equal to the flame's enhancement bonus ×3.
Cost: 4,000 gp (+1), 16,000 gp (+2), 36,000 gp (+3), 64,000 gp (+4), 100,000 gp (+5).
