This adamantine rod is short but heavy, with a head that evokes a warpick. Dwarven runes cover its surface, only interrupted by a set of buttons and a strange worn mark on one spot that obscures the original rune.
When grasped by a dwarf, this rod does nothing, although it can still be changed into various weapons like a Rod of Dwarven Might by pressing the buttons, albeit with a scaling weapon enhancement bonus (+1/3 wielder's character level).
When a non-dwarf grasps the rod, however, its true function is revealed as the holder is transformed into a dwarf as if subject to a polymorph any object effect (DC 26 to resist), but retains its mental ability scores. This change is immediate and irreversible (instantaneous), but still determine the duration of the effect. If the duration would not be permanent, such as plant creature picking it up, they receive a new save at the end of the duration with a cumulative +2 to the DC for each previous attempt. If they succeed at a subsequent save, they return to their normal form.
This is a curse effect. Any attempt to change the subject into a new form is short term only, in fact only having half its normal duration. The curse must be broken, such as by remove curse, and then a new polymorph any object effect can change the person's form permanently again.
To all attempts to determine the nature of the rod, such as identify, the rod appears to be a rod of dwarven might.
Prerequisites: Craft Magic Arms and Armor, Craft Rod, bestow curse, polymorph any object.
