Talk:Glacial Juggernaut (3.5e Spell)

Structures[edit]
I'd like to use this to knock over castles and crap, but I don't know how they respond to a bullrush. Any chance you could write something up for that? - Tarkisflux Talk 05:10, 10 September 2012 (UTC)
- My initial inclination is to have the bull rush represent its Strength check against the object's break DC, but I don't really know how that works with normal break DC numbers. Thoughts? - TG Cid 15:38, 10 September 2012 (UTC)
- Break DCs, hit points, and hardness for walls and such is here. Damage might be better than breaking, since you can wear out walls over time instead of crit fishing. Don't know if straight bludgeoning damage or some percentage of it would be best though, it depends on how fast you want them to run over walls I guess. The passive cold damage is unlikely to matter at all against objects and structures. - Tarkisflux Talk 17:41, 10 September 2012 (UTC)
- Given what's presented there, I'm thinking the same damage the juggernaut deals to creatures it overruns could be dealt to objects it hits. Assuming a caster of the minimum caster level necessary to cast this spell (13th), the juggernaut would deal 122 damage per hit to a hewn stone wall that is three feet thick (with 8 damage being deducted by the wall's hardness). That means it would break through that wall in 5 turns (540/122 = about 4.4 turns, but you gotta round up). That seems to accomplish what you desire, but if the damage should go up or down I think that's a pretty good starting point. - TG Cid 18:18, 10 September 2012 (UTC)
- That also didn't factor in the cold damage, since I assumed that would be omitted perhaps erroneously. If you like the example above and would like it to hold, the cold damage can be removed from being dealt to objects pretty easily. - TG Cid 18:20, 10 September 2012 (UTC)
- Masonry is probably more common than hewn stone, and has only 90 hit points to punch through. Wall of stone, has only 15 hp per 4 caster levels, and is going to be similarly punched right through with full damage from the bull rush. Wooden buildings (which are not listed in teh handy table) just fall. Dunno if that's desired or not, but that's what full damage gets you.
- The cold damage is pretty likely to be ignored or at least not contribute significantly. From higher up on the same page, "Cold attacks deal one-quarter damage to most objects; divide the damage dealt by 4 before applying the hardness." At level 20, that might consistently get you through 5 points of hardness. Yay? It's not going to contribute much compared to the 200 pts of crushing damage, even at half. - Tarkisflux Talk 20:10, 10 September 2012 (UTC)
